I thought the deal was done with the Giants. I think I read somewhere Correa has a bad back. Anyway I’m a Met fan so I’m pumped. What do you think of this crazy offseason so far? Mets and Padres are spending hard and blowing past the luxury tax. The Carlos Correa news shocked me last night. I wonder what the issue is.
Anthopolous low balled Swanson twice since Spring training, and hardly spoke to him since. Swanson called him a couple of weeks or so ago, and he realized he was being Freddie Freeman'd, so he went elsewhere for what is a fair salary for today's money. Like Freeman, he didn't want to leave Atlanta.New York will kill him on taxes but not quite as bad as California
As a Braves fan, I’m sad to see Swanson go to the Cubs. I’m trusting that Alex Anthopolous knows what he’s doing by letting him walk.
The Sox got their G.M. from Tampa Bay, and they have this "brilliant" idea that they can run the team the way Tampa does on the cheap.I'm a red sox fan and I'm disgusted.
Just like Trevor Story preceded the departure of Zander Bogaerts I have the sneaking suspicion that getting Justin Turner is a measure meant to provide a replacement for Rafael Devers. "On the cheap".
John Henry or more correctly the Fenway Sports group is not committed to the team.
They know that people are going to turn up to get their swag and sing Sweet Caroline and generally not even watch the game regardless of if they win or not. It's a cash cow for a group that owns multiple sports teams and various other enterprises.
This has happened before way back in the early part of the last century when the owner then sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees to fund a Broadway play.
No No Nannette.
Yeah hopefully a change of scenery does McCann well. He was awful on the Mets. Still has a great arm to throw out runners just the hitting never came through. Pretty good pitch framer.Baltimore picked up James Mccan from the Mets. The Mets will pay 19 of the 24 million still owed over the next two seasons. Baltimore will send over a player to be named later.
Not a bad trade for Baltimore. 5 million over 2 years for an experienced catcher to mentor Adley Rutschman. I think Baltimore will be a fun team to follow but they are doomed by playing in the AL East
Those exclusive games are a nightmare. They get some of the worst chuckleheads together to call a game and they talk about anything but the game.I just really hope they come up with a viable streaming option by next season. They have the vehicle (mlb.tv) but it looks like they are content to make an absolute train wreck of getting the games accessible to viewers. The exclusivity of certain games on certain streaming apps is an absolute nightmare. That being said, with Bally Sports going belly up(the rumor anyways, with mlb buying their streaming rights) i am holding out hope.
On the actual baseball side of things, am hoping since the Royals cleaned out most of the old heads, we will see improvement.
It’ll be interesting to see where he lands or if he’s blacklisted. From what I gather online people are still pushing the narrative that he’s an abuser. I’m not a fan of the guy because he’s kind of irritating but he’s also a hell of a pitcher. Seems like a shame to me that because of public opinion he might not get a chance to pitch again. I could be wrong though. Maybe a team hurting for pitching will take a flyer on him.Trevor Bauer has been reinstated. MLB tried to straddle a line of signaling a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence and vacating the suspension given that all charges were vacated and the victim was proven to be lying. Bauer denies all charges.
So it's likely the Dodgers will DFA him since most of the LA players have stated that they don't want him back. He is a bit of a nut regardless of the latest episode. But he is also a Cy Young award winner. And I have also found it interesting that he was the one who opened the entire spider tack controversy when he told the interviewer that half the pitchers in the league were cheating and MLB refused to do anything about it. Then you get these charges from a chick who was linked to past relationships with multiple MLB players. As Al Swearenger said in Deadwood. "This smells like a put up job."
Bottom line is that there is now a former Cy Young winner on the market that a team could pick for relatively cheap. Very interesting.
Personally I think the game benefits from having some "colorful" characters. But MLB is and has always been a very conservative organization. Truth be told I don't actually believe they could give flyer about the floozy. But he committed the cardinal sin when he called out the MLB. He reaped the whirlwind. His future depends on the public reaction. They have already started polling the fans and the early results are that over 60% favor his return. That will dictate his future. Maybe a team hurting for pitching will take a flyer on him.
What makes it stink even more is that the Fenway Sports group has not been shy about spending money. They just don't spend it on the Red Sox. They bought the Pittsburgh Penguins. And they own a British Soccer team and an F1 racing team and I think a NASCAR team. I've lost track of all the stuff there been buying. They know that the tourist are going to show up at fenway and drop fat cash no matter what. It's a cash cow.Another Red Sox fan checking in to say I'm also really unhappy with the general direction of ownership and Bloom as a GM. It baffles me that the Red Sox suddenly want to operate as if they are a small market team. Right now, their payroll is projected to be 16th in the league. I'm not trying to argue that they should spend money just to spend it, but there are some very obvious holes on this team right now. Not the least of which is a lack of starting pitching. Pinning all your hopes on a healthy Chris Sale and James Paxton is foolish. Neither of these guys have proven that they can stay on the field over the last several years.
Also, Steve Cohen is going to pay about the same amount in CBT fines for the Mets exceeding the threshold as the bottom four teams' combined payrolls!
The economics of baseball is broken.
