Mixture No. 79 has been a joke blend on Forums for years, but about eight years ago, chasing embers took up for it, so I tried it and believe it to be a respectable aromatic. I don't detect any whisky in the flavoring, nor have I heard of any, but it could be the mixture of the other flavorings and the tobacco that suggests that. The blend has been around "since Hector was a pup," and people are still buying it, so it has a devoted following.

I have heard that Sutliff has reformulated this somewhat. I expect that this is why I have been hearing positives about this blend the last few years. My first and last try of this one was enough to make me steer clear of it ever since. But, I am in no inclination to try it again though. If you like it, I'll just take your word on it.

I just finished my first bowl of it. And wow. I can see why some people don't like it. I think it's amazing. If I had to compare it to anything else it would be herbal cough drops. That said it's not the flavor bomb I thought it would be. I'd say give it a go and a try if for no other reason then it's an anomaly. People ask if I like blend x what else should I try. This one doesn't seem to have any thing I can think of like it. Though if you like unique and complex flavors this could be right up your alley. There is a lot going on. It kind of reminds me of Durian where there are many components one could pick out, but it's more of an overwhelming the taste buds by going at them at many angles. And the thing is that is the kind of thing that is either great or terrible. Oh and I don't think it tastes like Doctor Pepper but it has the same after taste.

My Secret Santa added a pouch to my gift and after a couple of bowls...I enjoyed it. I wouldn't smoke it everyday, but I wouldn't smoke any blend everyday.

it definitely has whiskey in it. Like that isn't so much in the taste but the tin note certainly is whiskey.

I think it's great but at the same time there is zero mystery how it could be offensive and gross to many people.

Put me in the like it camp. A LOT.

After some time opened, that strong minty whisky tends to soften and the vanilla steps up and becomes much more noticeable. A nice fragrant smoke and still burley forward.

I find it one of the best OTC, if not the best for me. I really don’t get the hate. But of course tastes are subjective.
