Has anyone else noticed that these two blends taste the same?

I'm not a pro, but after hoarding quite a few Jars of each, I can't tell the difference between the two. It could just be a simple case of unrefined tastebuds..

I've smoked both, but with years between. My memory of Half & Half, which I had expected to like, since the combination of Virginia and burley is usually an easy winner for me, is that it was oddly harsh with none of the pleasures of either leaf. The light-up always provided a happy moment before the trouble began, but after that it was never entirely enjoyable. Mixture No. 79, on the other hand, after hearing all kinds of jokes and negativity about it, has proved to be a solid burley-based blend with a pleasingly restrained touch of anisette flavoring, but always tobacco forward. For me, 79 is an easy winner, with no resemblance noticed, but that is over a long stretch in between. I'm not jiminks or sable in discernment of taste, but I didn't find those two alike at all.

I've had both, though it's been awhile since I've had the Mixture 79. I remember Mixture 79 as just another burley blend. Half and Half tastes unique to me--I get a distinct corn taste. It is flavored with cardamom, coriander and maze, according to Tobacco Reviews. Sometimes I'll get in the mood for Half and Half, but it's not in my top 10.

I have both and enjoy Mixture 79 more. The flavors are different enough for me to notice, but more importantly, I seem to have a chemistry issue with Half and Half where is just doesn't react well to me when smoking. I get some kind of sour/hot sensation that I don't like at all. It's not a Burley or Virginia thing as I smoke a lot of both. I've noticed it on some other codger blends and aromatics as well but not all of them. Strange I know, but Mixture 79 is one of my favorite codger blends while Half and Half is one of my least favorites.

Thanks. Now i have to try Mixture 79. I enjoy Half&Half but not as an all day smoke. I keep a jar of it on the table with CH and PA and Granger. I am on my first tub of Granger and i really enjoy it for its simplicity. Now i have to get a jar for Mixture 79 thanks buddy

Same as Guppy. I rather enjoy Mixture 79 with it's light lakeland background. I keep it on hand allthough I really only smoke it a couple times a year out of nostalgia. On the other hand I tried to smoke half and half a few times out of nostalgia for my wife's grandfather who smoked it every day, but I can't tolerate half and half at all. It turns harsh in my mouth instantly and I really can't tell you what it tastes like. I think some of these codger blends use more artificial additives and that one does not agree with me.

As far as the undersigned goes , to me Mixture 79 was way more enjoyable but as for half&half I had to quit and gave that pouch away, over the years I have bought it multiple times and always it dissapointed me
Not defending Half &Half, I’ve never tried it, but is it like Carter Hall in that the pouch version is quite different from the tub version?

I have and like both Mixture 79 and Half and Half. H&H is a blend I just picked up recently at the local B&M Wild Bills) about a week or so ago and have another pouch coming in the mail along with Velvet and a few new others.
Mixture 79 tastes nothing like Half & Half to my taste. Mixture is a sweeter vanilla Anasette flavor while half &Half is more of a Liqour sweetness. Both are excellent and worth trying despite a large number people that hate both of these blends. Was really surprised by Half &Half and was not expecting to like it nearly as much as I do, the burn is great and requires very few relights. Have experienced some bite with both blends but have been experimenting to get the best out of them.

I have bought Half & Half pouches in the past and loved it, so much that I bought a tub, the tub had not agreed with me, burns me and tastes like ash. I'm about to throw it out now after several years, I'm ordering a pouch soon as well as a pouch of CH which I've never tried. I always say I'm a fan of H&H but I guess I'm meaning the pouches I had before the tub. Virginia makes my mouth miserable but in a blend its usually fine, but maybe its the virginia causing the problem.

Is CH less heavy on the Virginia?
