My Father purchased a few meerschaum pipes when he was stationed in Sinope, Turkey in the early 60's.

This weekend we came across them cleaning out the basement and he let me have them. Keep them in the family and get some use out of them. They aren't master carved but they are pretty special to me. They were pretty used and are in need of some TLC but I'm happy to give them a clean and polish.

I've smoked the grape leaf bent apple style and the Dublin style and they smoke well. I'm in love with the lady's hand pipe but I'm a little apprehensive to smoke it. Half have a metal stinger in the stem and the nicer ones have a bone tenon that I'm worried will break. Oh well, they are nice additions to my collection. Thanks Dad!!

Awesome! Thank you! I'm not sure where I went wrong on the pictures.
This one is on imgur. Go to your page and click on your father's image so that it opens in its own window. Look to the right and you will see a row of format options. Pick the one entitled BBCode and click on "copy". Next go to your reply window on this forum and paste the location into the window. You don't need to use the IMG button as the image location is automatically formatted so that it will appear when you post.

My Dad in Turkey, 1960-something. Right around the Cuban Missile Crisis just a few minutes light time from the USSR across the Black Sea.

You need to copy the BBCode format and just paste that into the reply window. There should be IMG in brackets at the head end and /IMG in brackets at the tail end bookending the image location for that image.
EDIT: Ah! You got it while I was typing instructions. Excellent!

Nifty pipes! Indeed, they're common meerschaums, but the carving is nice, a few have proven to be good smokers, and they have a great history.

I like them but I hate the bakelite stems! They seem to be shaped just perfectly to want to pop out of my mouth when I'm smoking them. I'm terrified they will end up falling one day.
