So, what's a good alternative Va/Per to McClelland's 2015 that's sold in bulk? And a good alternative sold in tins? Several non-Va/Per

recommendations have come up, but not so many alternative Va/Pur recommendations. I have too much tobacco on hand to order

more, but I'd like to make a note for the future. (Meantime I'm mixing McClelland Va. Red Cake with CD Perique (just a dusting). I'll

see how that does, too. But suggestions?

What? You're talking about our 401(k).
As for Vaper recommendations, I would have to suggest (tinned) Escudo, Hal O' the Wynd, Haddo's Delight and (bulk) Luxury Navy Flake and Night Train to start.

Ok sorry for the necro thread but I just wanted to say I smoked my first bowl of McC's 2015 yesterday and it was delicious(although maybe a tad too peppery).
In the past I had tried numerous Va and Va/Per blends and never really found much flavor to them. However lately I've been trying to smoke them more often and I find the more I smoke them the more I get flavor from them. I now love Annie Kake and 2015 will be on my regular buy list.
Also I'm going to open my first tin of Mike & Russ's Mind Meld Va/Per as soon as I finish off this 2015.
I think I tend to prefer the Va/Per blends that are more plum than pepper. Does anyone have any other excellent suggestions that leans more towards the fruity side of Va/Pers?

Thanks for the recommendation Red. I was going to try St. James flake and St. James woods. I'm curious to see how they differ.

Fitzy, Oldreddog suggests Sam Gawith's St. James Flake, I would go one further and suggest the plug version. So much fruitier in my opinion though the flake version is great too.
Regards,
Jay.

I'm a big fan of St. James Woods as well and have had 2015 on my to-try list. Does anybody know how the two compare?

It's not a bit funny Don, now I have to trawl through tobacco reviews to research Mclelland flakes that fit my tobacco spot. Then I have to find a online place that will ship to Europe. Then I have to work out if the high dollar low euro is worth the gamble of buying 1.75oz of a tobacco I've never smoked. Then I have to wait for it to be shipped and delivered which could take a fortnight. Then I have to get the tobacco, assuming it's delivered safely, to optuim smoking level.

Then because I've invested so much in it I have to like it regardless.

And pipe smoking is supposed to be a stress buster.

Dave, you wouldn't say that if you had bought a tin of Peterson's Luxury Blend in error! That has to be the ghastliest excuse for tobacco ever marketed...it really is not possible to like under any circumstances!
Regards,
Jay.

Damn Red. I'm glad I don't have to jump through those hoops to get McClelland baccy. They are one of my favorites along with Hearth & Home.
Have you tried any of Russ O's stuff yet? (another hoop to jump through ha ha)
I'm glad I haven't tried a tin of Luxury Blend yet.

Fitzy I have tried Black House and White Knight, both fine smokes.Based on those I'll happily try more of Russ O's stuff when I get a chance.

But for now I'm going to try,to try some Mclleland baccy.

Jay you have obviously never smoked Amsterdamer :)

Jay Amsterdamer is a cunning marketing ploy to stop Clan being the world's worst tobacco.

I got an ounce of 2015 and 2035 to try. I smoked a few bowls of each and so far I am enjoying both although the 2035 is more to my taste.

These are my first MC flakes and they very much remind me of GH flakes in cut and texture. As I am a total GH slave this is high praise.

I'm going to be obsessively trying more MC flakes over the next while.
I blame you for this fitzy.

Very nice. I've yet to try the 2035 but I can say 2000 and 2020 are good as well.
