While the Great McClelland Debate of 2018 raged on, SP sold out of the 40th.
Edit: I see I'm a bit late in that report. I may have contributed to the sell out ;)

It has become a self fulfilling prophecy. this thread has gathered the most attention of nearly all the recent ones. When and if it becomes available , I am buying 1000 tins. You have been forewarned. There will be no more tins stamped with 2017 on the bottom , forever. Muahh hah ah

"And the last tin disappeared from 4noggins some minutes ago. Kaputt."
I got it, my first ever. I actually wanted two but no dice.

I love the dialogue. I cellared many (many) tins of 40th last year since I knew immediately it was good. That’s the way I role since the deeming regulations. So, this is one of the first examples, for me at least, where I can sit back and not get stressed by the hyperbole. I’m proud of myself, as weird as that sounds. The point ... you gotta fight for your right to party. :)

So I guess the thread can now be retitled McClelland 40th No Longer In Stock At Smokingpipes.
Until they get some more stock in...
...unless it is truly the end of the world, in which case it will indeed be the end of this thread and of 40th Anniversary.
Ha. This is what I call entertainment...I just loved watching the number of tins go from hundreds down to zero...and then the guy who grabbed the last tin posts about it in this thread. It doesn't get any better than this.

I bought just one tin which I'm gonna smoke when I turn 40 in a birthyear pipe. I guess I'll be regretting not having bought more 9 years from now.

Cheers to those who stocked up.

I'll admit that I hesitated before ordering the 100 tins, but knowing that I'd be able to sell it back to all of you at twice the price, well...it made it into something happy.

The twenty tins I bought when it was first realeased will likely last me forever. I haven't even finished half of the first tin that I opened a few months ago.

They still have more than 10 McC straight VA blends in stock right now, over a thousand tins. Including one lonesome tin of their blending VA. Probably because none of them are on that "list of doom".

This thread has been very interesting. I have 7 tins of 40th and at the rate I smoke those will probably last me forever, along with the ten lbs of Esoterica blends I bought while everyone was focused on

McClellands.

The tobacco industry is not going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Imagine if suddenly, the taxes from tobacco sales and income taxes from all those emplyed in the tobacco industry were gone. It would be catastrophic to the U.S. Economy. I think taxes will continue to rise and restrictions become tighter. Prices will steadily increase.
It only makes sense for pipe smokers to steadily cellar tobacco. I say steadily buy not panic buy. Most tobacco improves with age. You're protecting yourself against price increases. And if something catastrophic does happen, you have yourself covered to some degree.
I'm 60, I think in three to five years, I should have enough to last the rest of my life. And I'll always be smoking agreed tobacco. I do feel for the younger pipe smokers but I don't think anything catastrophic is imminent.

The taxes from leaf tobacco are being replaced by taxes on vape juice and marijuana. The end is nigh, not today, not tomorrow, but sooner than later.
