Yup - always a good man for a quote.
Just two from me.
The first is from one of his greatest speeches, toward the beginning of the war. It was the speech used at the end of the Gary Oldman film 'The Darkest Hour' and reflects the man's utter defiance at a time when things looked dark for England:
“We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and the oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.”
The second quote seems to me to be especially relevant these days when 'truth' seems so often to be a negotiable concept to our leaders (and we get it in the UK too):
“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”
