For those who make their own labels and print them off for the tops of mason jars, what kind of glue do you use to attach them to the metal tops? I need something that is not going to crack off when it gets dry. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For the jar labels that I print and put on the side of the jar I use the yellow Scotch brand double-sided tape. If I cut out a circular label for the top of the jar, I use the 3M "puffy" two sided stuff.

I'm one of these ancients who has a printer hooked up to my PC, so I can select one of dozens of type faces and write the name of the blender, the blend, the date received (sometimes). I don't add any pretty art, but I like the look of a printed-out label. I try to pick up the little label with the Scotch tape and affix it to the front or top of the jar. As we know, I'm not a photo guy, but, for me, if it isn't in print, it didn't happen.
Me too--If I'd written a response, it would have been what you said:)

I just print the labels on the rectangular mailing labels. I hate the round ones for the lids. I wouldn't even be able to read them when I get them stacked onto shelves. Some, I will add the companies logo, but for most IDGAF. Just name of company, blend, date added to the cellar, and weight of tobacco in jar. For example, MacBarens Cube Cut, 2-2015, 3oz. Anything else that is cute, maybe, but after a while it doesn't matter.

If it is a bulk from smokingpipes.com I can usually remove their label from the bag and it is still sticky enough to put on the lid. Otherwise I use a sharpie and really poor handwriting skills.

If I need to put something else in the jar, rubbing alcohol on a rag or paper towel removes marker very quickly, even if it has been there for years.

I saw that and starting laughing!

I've been doing this and just realized if I empty a jar I'll need to do that, lol. Labels it is!

Replying to my stupid self because I finally remembered to order the darn paper labels today and get on here tonight and find out alcohol is the solution! At least it was just a roll of 500.

Isn't it always, lol? Okay, it really isn't but Dalmore 15 yr. and some Girl Scout shortbreads are calling.

I'm a graphic designer by trade, I print out mason jar top labels for everything. If I don't particularly like a brand's circular label or it doesn't have one I'll design my own.

Recently did some designs for some of the Sutliff bulks I'm pretty happy with. All in all it's a fun part of the hobby and brings a smile to my face when a drawer full of jars are all beautifully labeled.
So…do you make them for your fellow pipers if they gave you a list? Even maybe for a small fee? Sounds like something several of us might be interested in… ?

I use the International Cellar Club Labels. If the novelty wears off then I'll use my Brother label maker. I got it on clearance for like $50 a few years ago and its as handy as can be. It's one of those things I wondered if I would use it much and now I like it so much I would replace it in a heart beat if it ever broke.

The tobacco manufacturer are no doubt aware that in many case their product will be jarred. Why not include a sticker for that purpose in the tin? Doesn't sound too costly, and will aure make the customers happy. Will also serve as a marketing tool.

I think I just saw something about C&D doing that, I think they did it on Folklore if I’m not mistaken. I saw a video where they showed how the label was easy to remove and re-stick.

I'd start a thread and post all the labels I've done so far (around 30 or so) and then take requests for free. They're always fun to work on.

Just not sure where I'd post the thread and whether or not it'd be kosher to do so. I don't want to clutter up the forum if people would rather just find their stuff on CellarLabels.

I think it would be fitting for the accessories section, and it won't be clutter. I think a number of us would like to see your work even if we didn't use it. I know I am a little curious. You could even put it in the "for sale" section for Pipes and Accessories sell/trade section. Just a thought.

If you do happen to post them somewhere on here, can you please message me if you remember, to let me know where they are? I’m very interested in seeing your work!!

If you don't want to post them here, and I think you should, maybe post them to a Dropbox or Google Drive or something similar and just link to them from here? Just a thought.
