Me too, and I am glad I got into them. That is how I hear of new pipes, from rabid collectors who stick to one or two favorite brands, for the most part.

Heart of Darkness by Conrad was on my Grandma’s bookshelves above Me Little Armalite and Fields of Athenry when me and my cousin Pam the Schoolteacher divided her relics.
But I kept the Steinbeck's and Cash.

Man I got really excited when I saw this up for auction. I immediately messaged the seller and asked how much it would take to buy it outright. But then I went back after sending the message and saw it was broken. What a shame. I really want one of these. 
I honestly thought about bidding on it to send off to briarville, if it stays low it would be worth it considering a 400 is usually a few hundred bucks.
That I'm not sure of, but a new tenon could be an option, maybe ? Can't recall if I've ever seen that before. I'm not an expert at repairs but I hear they are very good -I've never used them.
I don't restore (yet), but plan to start soon, so idk what would be possible really. I've been putting it off but I've got some stems I have got to work on.
I might not and just wait to plonk down coin on a nice one, they're just very hard to find, and I hunt Marxman like a hound
That particular pipe will probably sell over its value. The full repair and restoration from Briarville with shipping will touch on around $60. It's a smaller 400 as it is - at its current price of over $40 I imagine the pipe with repairs will require an investment of over $100 to own. Someone scorched the bowl - I am guessing it was really used.
It's up to $40? Wow, I didn't see that, it was 12 bucks last I looked. Yeah, won't be bidding I guess ...
Also that seller has a Custombilt with the same issue. Idk what the old codger did with them but he sure had some terrible smoking habits
