I dont know about toxicity but when you read about using mango wood for furnature it states that one of the negatives is that it can easily dry and crack with heat. Sounds like not a great solution for a pipe. I could certainly be wrong.

Mango is in the poison ivy family and contains the same irritants, though in lesser amounts. Although I like pipes of unusual woods—I’m smoking a maple mm right now—I’d hesitate before smoking a mango pipe

To fire up the discussion, yes mango is told to be irritant to the skin but that it s also true for maple, olive, rosewood and a few other woods used for pipe making. It is als true for ebony used for guitar fretboard, we put our fingers on.

“The fruit peel of Mango is filled with Allergenic urushiols, which can cause strong contact dermatitis in some sensitive individuals, such as those who are already allergic to other plants from the Anacardiaceae family (poison ivy and poison oak).

During woodworking, Mango wood dust can cause skin irritation.” Actually forgot the source (Biden-Syndrome).

Surely you wouldn’t die from the small amount of dust produced by drilling and carving the pipe. You are more likely to get an allergic reaction when peeling a mango. If the hard wood is able to stand the heat, it will be a fine piece with nice grain and colour. I would give it a try.

Warnings about furnature made of mango state to keep it out of the sun and away from radiators. Also to keep it oiled. If not it is prone to cracking. I certainly sounds like a material not to be used for a pipe.
