Every now and then I think abut going in hock to Scandinavian and North American pipe carvers who insist it's a lucrative profession. The Eastern Europeans and Chinese are now taking the wrong lessons from them.
If I let myself start on Danish Pipes, I would be in a homeless shelter. I almost bough an estate Bang a few years back from SP, but by the time I made up my mind to pull the trigger, it was gone. The Lord has been good to me and gotten me through several health crises, but the number one example of His merciful kindness was keeping me from that pipe.

I saw the ad this morning and bought a few tins. Though I kinda agree with the poster above who suggested the plug won’t be much different than the regular flake, but what the hell. The gimmick got me. Navy Flake was one of the first blends I tried and I’ve liked it ever since. Buying the plug today made my choice for my evening smoke, a 2011 tin I opened a couple of months ago.

Forbidden Mac Baren Brownie is tempting...if there was more supply, I would be enticed; I love the regular version.
...which reminds me I should buy a dedicated 'plug knife', and therefore also more plug tobacco...oh boy...

I was gonna buy it, but then realized (or assumed) it was the same as the flake version....but not sliced.

I've had it with self serve. Really. Check myself in at the airline. Pump my own gas. Fine. Sorta. But not really.

Time is precious. If it was $5 less per tin than the one that's been perfectly sliced for me.... maybe. And I like knives as much as most. But my time with a quiet bowl of tobacco doesn't need the addition of more work, more ritual, or more whatever.

Now it may (I dunno) age differently in many years, but for me...I'll take the nice perfectly sliced version.

I like SP btw. I buy mostly from them. Excellent service and wonderfully reliable. Been a customer for most of their 20 years. They send cigars in humidifier bags! But for me this one didn't ring the bell.

Lazy me.

With a few years on it, Navy Flake settles down to be a sweet, pleasantly spicy smoke. With about 30 years on it, the stuff is absolute magic, dark, smooth and subtly sweet. So aging this little puck might make for a treat in the long term.
I have a tin from mid 90s. Was gonna pop it this Christmas. You reckon I should wait another 5?

Sounds awesome but I’m just not buying anymore tobacco, plus I’ve got pounds of the sliced version. I do prefer plugs above all but I just can’t justify it. I did stock up on the ODF Plug, which to me is more fit to be a plug.

I gave in and ordered 5 tins today. Figure this won’t be back and I didn’t want to miss it due to my love of plugs. While it likely will be similar to the flakes, I just had to find out for myself.

We don’t believe you, @musicman ! Your language here leaves plenty of wiggle room, doesn’t it?! No need to be ashamed if and when you break down and buy it!
Rule number 1: Keep your options open. :ROFLMAO:

Also, I feel shame every time I hit the purchase button. Deep shame. But then, I see something else that looks promising, and forget all about it. Then the cycle re-starts. :ROFLMAO:
