Mac Baren Dark Twist

I picked up a tin of this and ODF, last week at my BM. I never tried it before and as fussy as I am, I wasn’t sure I’d like it. I’m almost done the tin and absolutely love it. ODF I have smoked before it’s ok. My question is what’s similar to Dark Twist?

There's a whole world of MacB roll cakes. @BROBS would probably know better than me, but i will say Stockton. Also Newminster 403. I haven't tried Club Blend yet, but it's next to be opened.

They had a release here in the US a few months back, a limited run. I do believe, however, that it's regular production in Europe.

Club blend is reasonably similar, not as sweet to me. I really like Dark Twist as well, I started buying it in bulk. I have one tin of Stockton, haven't opened it yet.

You've already reached the mountain top. Just stay there and keep enjoying Dark Twist. (Although if you're willing to head in a different but equally interesting direction get some Davidoff Flake Medallions).

I prefere Dark Twist, Stockton is lighter and its taste is more subtle.

I'll second Doblone d'Oro as being similar, but with it being much more complex and having more going on than Dark Twist. Stockton is the only one I can think of that compares. Wish they'd do another release of it as I've only got a couple tins saved back

You might want to try Roll Cake. It is spicier than Stockton and a little fuller in body as well.

I disagree that it’s fuller in body. Just my opinion.

With the Doblone I believe what you’re tasting is the perique ?

I find dark twist more consistent then Doblone.

Absolutely, although I've found I can alter the Dark Twist by visually sorting the coins. I'll agree that although all Doblone d'Oro coins look the same to me, sometimes it's sweet, sometimes it's spicy, sometimes it's woody, sometimes it's something else.

yeah sometimes it's one of the best things I've smoked other times it's not so great.

I recently consumed a 5 y/o tin of Dark Twist -- oh my. I bought one tin to try, now I'm cellaring. Great stuff.

I have not found a substitute for Dark Twist, which I enjoy. Solent mixture, though not a close substitute, is a good blend to try.

I'm working on a 10 y/o tin of Dark Twist right now, and it's fantastic.

I love Club Blend as well. It has similarly sweet cased Virginias, but more DFK to balance it out. I also have 10 y/o stocks of CB, and it's smoooooooooooth.

I have a few jars of 10-11y/o Dark Twist, Roll Cake and Club Blend. Going to pull out the Dark Twist today. In general I never really survived without the legendary MB bite but 10 years on we’ll see what grasshopper has learned.
