The other day I stop at the only place in my city that sells pipe tobacco to try to get some PA. Turns out they don't carry, but do carry vanilla creme loose flake in a pouch. Enjoying it immensly. Thinking of grabbing some of the 7 seas, just not too sure which one I should try first.

Solent is my all time favorite from MacBaren, it's unlike any other blend they make. I get no bite, and the taste and aroma are that compared to a very old vintage aged blend with small amounts of Latakia that is very muted. My opinion only but it's a blend I always have on hand and plenty of it cellared.

With my next TAD I'll be getting a pound of the 7 Seas Regular (it's my favourite of the Seas), and maybe a tin of the Vanilla Cream Flake. Trying to decide between a tin of the new 7 Seas Black or Plumcake.

I think you just sold me on that one doc. I'll have to pick up a tin when I get a chance. I'm not big on aromatics but plum cake sounds nice as well.

nbpiper- Can't really go wrong with the 7 Seas line, but I'd say Royal is a good starter. My favourite of the line is the Regular, but the Royal has a wonderful vanilla/rum/caramel flavour that tastes amazing and leaves a great room note as well. A win/win for an aromatic.

They hit a home run with HH Highland Mixture for me, but I want to try some of the Seven Seas. Sounds like the red will be the first if I can get it.

I have just been gifted a 100grm tin of "Harmony", which I am told is now called "Symphony? The recommendation to pack more lightly than one would any other tobacco seems to work, also watch your cadence or you'll get bitten.

I can attest to some of the Mac Baren tobaccos being somewhat bite-y. I tried some Vintage Matured Virginia and it scorched my tongue for two days. Worst part is, I only smoked half the bowl... This said, I LOVE the Vanilla Cream Flake, and their 7 Seas line is great (with the small exception of the 7 Seas Black, which by itself is very bland, IMO).

Well I was given a sample bag of 7 Seas Black and even though I have a horribly stuffed up nose I have to say I enjoyed it. Couldn't quite pin down the flavouring, but still enjoyed the smoke none the less. Can't wait till my palate recoops and I can really taste this blend.

Are there any fans of the Black Ambrosia? I know it was mentioned before and I have a tin of it, but haven't had a bowl of the blend in about two years and the tin needs some major rehydrating. I'll definitely have a bowl of it after it rehydrates and post my findings after a few bowls. Was just curious what others thoughts on the blend are who have had it.

I enjoy it occasionally. I have a tin of the 7 Seas Royal and Gold and those tend to get a bit more of my attention. I did pick one up today that I hadn't tried yet. Its called club blend and OH MAMA! I am loving this stuff. Right up my alley, just the right amount of sweetness and a very smooth tobacco flavor. The tin date is July 2009 so it aged in the store (if that's even relevent for such a blend.)

Had a few bowls of Black Ambrosia the other week. It smoked really well and the citrus casing came through well also. Not a bad smoke. I must note though that the Mrs. only found the room note as tolerable. Wasn't nearly as welcomed as the 7 Seas Royal room note.
My TAD hit the week before New Years, so I acquired a number of new blends from Mac Baren recently. Here's the blends I picked up and have smoked already.
I picked up the other two blends in the 7 Seas Line that I was missing, the Gold and Red. I love the Red! It's my favourite cherry blend, a large part due to the fact that it's a more tart wild cherry which I haven't come across too often if ever until this blend. Smokes wonderfully! The Gold Blend was another winner as well. It has a great butterscotch smell and taste to it with vanilla, honey, and a faint flavour of fruit. Also a great smoke. Definately will stay in the weekly rotation.
Finally I got around to getting Vanilla Cream in flake cut, and I'm more than glad I did. I enjoy the flake version more than the loose cut. To me the flavours, both tobacco and dressing, are a little more intensified in the flake version. My guess would be the pressing could be what intensified the flavours. Can't go wrong with either version of this blend though.
Last but not least, I gave Plumcake a try. It's been around for 50+ years, so I figured I should give it a go. Now I've only had one bowl of it, but I wasn't too pleased with the first bowl. The Syrian Latakia was pretty evident in it, and I've learned, as of right now, I'm not a fan of Lady Latakia. Just don't like the taste, yet. I'll definately give Plumcake a few more bowls before deciding whether or not to buy the blend again though.

I have been considering ordering some of my favorite MacB's in bulk but so far only have tins. Have any of you ever noticed inconsistency when it comes to bulk vs. tin in MacBaren blends?

I just bought my first tin of Mac Baren two days ago. I picked up Burley London blend. Very good and really enjoy it. I think it's going to be a regular.

I picked up the 7 Seas Regular Blend in bulk and it smokes just the same as the tin. Same flavour same good even smoke.
Gave Navy Flake a try tonight. Have to say I enjoyed it, but it does seem to have a little bit of vitamin-n in it. Definately will keep stocked on a tin of it. For me it's a bit much of nicotine for an every day smoke, but surely will be an enjoyable treat every now and again.
