Opinions, speculation, conjecture, and stuff!
Pay me no mind. I'm just offended that no one commented on my Highlander reference.

 You guys have brightened my day.
We were talking about dying from cancer, or those who would say smokers deserve death. The Highlander is a movie about immortals. Imagine Connor Macleod as a smoker, finding out that in the 21st century, some people think smokers are deserving of death. I bet that'd give him a laugh. That's how Highlander relates to this thread.

I to do not believe that anyone deserves to have something that is as terrible as cancer. However I think the statement is more of an extreme way to say you can not complain if it is your fault. Unfortunately that is true. We all know the risks involved with smoking. This is not the 1940's alot of research has been done and we all know to an extent that it is harmfull to our health. So I to believe that you really can not be that upset if you find out that something you do in your day to day life contributes to your death. Does one deserve it though? I think not.

There is more danger in eating genetically modified food and taking prescription medicine than there is in enjoying a pipe . YMMV

Looks like we don't have anything to worry about with lung cancer anymore. Check it out: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/05/12/lung-cancer-vaccine-cimavax-cuba/27168559/
Thanks, Obama!

I wonder if it will come with a case of Cuban cigars?

That's cool, they've already done the R&D, and they give it to their people for free. It will be interesting to see what Big Pharma will charge once they get their hands on it.

They also maintain and drive cars from the 50's. Necessity is the mother if invention.

We all will die of something, yeah no shit, and this how far will you go nonsense is just that. Living to 50 doesn't mean he did something wrong whereas the 100 year old fella done it all right. Life is Nature and Nurture. And the one fucking thing which doesn't cost damn a cent to insurance companies, neighbors behind slightly pulled curtains, medical providers, on lookers of channel 13 or all the close ones and all the far ones is compassion. Compassion and showing Love to your fallen brother or sister, aside from being a gimmie, can cure a hell of a lot...or at least help speed those out of this life in a more painless, peaceful, pace. Here's the kicker...if we can do this for the dying...excellent! If we can learn to afford this to the well, the living...Godlike!!

Again, MSO had it right. Those that embrace this idea are those that somehow need to feel that they somehow can control fate. They can't and most of us accept that. I have survived two years of war and two bouts with cancer induced by exposure to Agent Orange. Did I deserve it, I don't think so but there are some that need to believe that somehow they can change what fate has in store for them and therefore need to find others responsible for what has befallen them. It's a concept that is flawed but they can't grapple with the reality we are all going to die of something. Personally I don't look forward to drooling on myself in some rest home. Some things are worse than dying!!! And an existence without dignity is one of them. To those that think otherwise, good luck.

Gloucesterman, I remember hearing some of my fellows back in 'nam days say that the servicemen who were exposed to agent orange deserved it. It was a horrible thing to say and worse to hear.

I'll take that "perfectly timed" fatal nicotine induced seizure while in the throes with a beautiful, sexy loved one!!
