Whoops - left out the 2020 POTY which I referenced above. Looking at it closer, I guess it's not all that close to CP's pipe.

The Charles Peterson pipe would be so nice with a sandblast. I'm seeing a lot of nice grain/blast on Petersons lately. Just yesterday I was pretty much forced to pick up this 307 because of how pretty it is. I'd dig a 308, but not gonna lie, I think I prefer the 307. View attachment 372591View attachment 372593
The grain on their blasts have definitely been improving. I hope they can get better consistency on their general shaping. Some are spot on, others slight off, and still others absolutely horrendous.

What fantastic curvature on that bowl! I agree, some of the sandblasting is truly beautiful.

Just picked up one of the Harp 444's and a sandblasted 309 and loving them quite a lot. Glad to see Peterson reaching back into their old catalog for new releases. I'd really love to see a nice, big Dublin come some time soon. The 120 is just too small for me. I'd love them to do the old school A4 or one of the B16/47/57 shapes. What would you like to see re-released by Peterson?

This is a beautiful pipe. I don't own any Petersons yet, but I'm been tempted a few times. Very nice

It was funny when they claimed to be replicating his pipe with the 140th Anniversary pipe. Also curious the way they replicated the 4AB, also not paying much attention to the shank or band. 'Tribute' pipes maybe, but hardly replications. I'd like to see CP's pipe with a proper silver band, and a 4AB with a proper bell-shaped ferrule. A 308 with a super-fat shank like some of them had, along with the fat bell ferrule, would be really special.

Also, a properly-done 777 or real swan-neck 160X - the 160-ish 2023 POTY was a good tribute though.
Thankfully, now that the 309 is back in production, they have a much easier opportunity for another crack at the 4AB (God willing). Perhaps there's a fitting anniversary coming up like Basil Rathbone's 130th birthday or something along those lines.

A 308 return would be great as well, I've wanted one ever since PPN's post on Robert Donat. There was an estate on eBay recently but it was a fishtail and I'm a P-lip fanboy.

I'm really not too bent out of shape by things like the new 309 having a shorter, acrylic stem (aside from the fact that I actually like the new stems), because it's natural to have variance in production lines from era to era. But I definitely agree that explicit replicas should aim for full accuracy. It's a different principle.

My PPN POTY has some off-shaping for sure. I don't mind too much, it's unique, but still a shame in principle. However I do adore the new sandblasts. Incredibly comfortable to hold, not just pretty.

Some older models of the Sherlock Holmes Baker Street (xl 13 Bulldog) have a kind of lattice work between the beading. I would love to see Peterson return that look to that model and other bulldog shapes, e.g., the b5, the 155x, the 150. My understanding is that it is not particularly difficult to achieve but it would add a bit more time to the manufacturing process.
