Lovat: Is it a Pipe Shape or a Stem Shape?

4.75" is still > 4.52".

Bear in mind, I'm calling "stem" the whole part from the spot it joins the bowl to the tip. What others call stem I call the "mouthpiece". So, to me shank + mouthpiece = stem.

Aaaand, others claim that the mouthpiece doesn't count in terms of judging dimensions to group pipes into a category. So, to them, your pipe is a mere billiard with a saddle stem.

Ok, well if the shank has to be twice as long as the bowl height, then I guess mine is just some kind of anomaly.

In the previous thread where we discussed it I tentatively decided to call it an Ontarioan. Maybe I should stick with that.

I've been reading everywhere that a Lovat is a pipe who's shank is 1.5-2x as long as the bowl height with a saddle bit. But then most makers call any straight billiard with a saddle bit and round shank a Lovat.

Can someone pull up the international white paper that the United Nations/Pipe Industry Working Group put together in 1958? I think all the shape standards were codified in ISO 123-A.

Unfortunately, talks broke down before the English/Balkan distinction was settled.
