Thanks everyone for your input. I took your advice and ordered about 10 1 oz. packages of varying types to see what a direction I want to go.

The key thing is to enjoy the search. In all likelihood, you will find some tobaccos that you really enjoy right now and some that you don't. Five years from now you very well may find that your tastes have taken a 180 degree turn.
The same thing applies to pipe shapes and finishes.
