Looking for a Pipes and Philosophy Group

You know what I want? I want to belong to a group where we get together, smoke our pipes, and discuss philosophy.

Anyone know if anything like that exists anywhere? I live near Salem, Oregon. Anybody nearby?

I was trying to Google for something like this, and found the following quote from a PipesMagazine article:

The pipe corresponds to the rational part of the soul, which explains why we tend to picture wise figures smoking pipes: the Oxford don surrounded by his great books, or Sherlock Holmes, who, in Doyle’s original stories, actually smoked other sorts of tobacco as well, yet is almost always portrayed with a pipe. Unlike cigars and cigarettes, a pipe endures. Similarly, the questions of the philosopher far outlast the passing concerns of physical desires on the one hand and human ambitions on the other. Further, while the cigar is entirely masculine, the pipe has both masculine and feminine elements (the stem and the bowl). I'd try to find a local pipe club, join and discuss topics of interest. Just might bump into another philosophically inclined individual or two in the group. Even if not, still will likely have a good time.

My Philosophy prof. had us read that whole article. It’s a really neat comparison between Plato’s tripartite soul, and tobacco ingestion. I‘d love to see an updated version or a follow up that includes vapes and pouches! I (unfortunately) am not near by, but if I could recommend inviting men from your church (should you go to one) to this meet up. If you don’t go to church, or don’t believe in God, I still think you’d be more likely to find a group willing to set aside time for pipes and philosophy at a church

Sadly, my church tradition thinks that tobacco is sinful. I am now an outcast...

An old guy off the streets used to show up at philosophy lectures by my old Prof, sit there quiet for the most part but then thunder "Heraclitus was not wrong!". He had a good point.

All the Baptists I know look down on smoking, but not chew, which I always found odd.

I used to work at University of Portland, and knew a few fellow pipers among the faculty and staff, but most of them are now retired. Certainly there must be a few down at Willamette, much nearer to you, OP.
