Maybe this should be a different thread, but what happened with Hittel Used Pipes -- was he selling tobacco tins? I almost bid on some pipes he was selling a few weeks ago.

@ pitchfork, to make a long story short I was doing restorations for him. I restored 10 and some of them ended up taking longer then expected as a few were in really bad shape. I kept in touch with him letting him know what was going on. Sent all the pipes to him and never heard anything back and things just went downhill from there. His foster mother ended up settling everything for him.....
The long of it is in the link below

Oh, right. I remember that now, rx2man. So it's nothing to do with the pipes he's selling these days? (He pretty clearly doesn't have anybody restoring them for him, because they're in pretty foul shape.)

@ pitchfork, yes its too bad to as he had a really nice collection dropped on him. With a little work they would have made a lot more money for him. Oh well......sounds like he is back to ignoring things as bnichols23 has found out. I got screwed by doctorhoss and did not get about $100 in tobacco but he was having medical issues and had been great to deal with. So he got a pass from me on that. Cant pay up when you dont have the money to pay up. Hittel does not get a pass.....

Wow. I have some old GLP in a box in the closet. Now I am going to have to dig them out and look at the tins. I never had a tin rust through before.

@rx2man, thanks large for the welcome! And yeah, it's always the few high-profile bad ones that cause most of the grief. I count myself lucky. :) Re this joint here, I lurk-scoped things out before dropping anchor. Y'all're my kinds of pipe folks, so I'll be here a while. }:)
@pitchfork, yeah, you dodged a bullet by not bidding on HUP's stuff. -grin- He may eventually come back & start peddling on fleabay again, but he's 100% incommunicado now (Apr 2018). And he said *rx2man* was guilty of "blackmail" when he himself's got a long history of, well, you know.... }:)

Thanks Sable, for the heads up. This is the kind of situation us "newbies" would have no idea about. As a firm believer in Murphy's Law, my inclination would be to jar rather than risk losing the tobacco. Again, a big thanks!

I would be wary about buying McClelland 5100 from anyone flipping brand new Stonehaven for 100+ dollars on eBay as well.
Now that the Sutliff match is out, use the 220 trick to fake mature/darken it, give it a mist of malt vinegar, and sell it as the real thing.
No scruples people are no scruples people. Don't trust them.
