Anyone tried one of these? These are new on TobaccoPipe.com. I favor my old boy lighters, but this looks interesting so long as the wide flame does not burn the rims. The built-in tools are nice, so long as it’s not too bulky in the pocket. Any thought?

I also favor the Old Boy lighter, but I do use a Colibri lighter of recent manufacture similar to the one you identified. Like other piezoelectric ignited lighters I've used, it can take a few clicks to light it and it's more sensitive to even slight breezes than the Old Boy. On the other hand, it's nice and simple to operate. I suggest trying it if you can easily afford it. If I were in the market for a new and simple to operate lighter, I'd try the model you found. I like the concept of that Brebbia lighter.

It looks like a jet lighter. Id be curious how quickly it would burn a rim. If you get one let us know.

This is actually a torch lighter. Here is the product description I found at the Danish Pipe Shop:

The last years the lighter market has been overwhelmed with new lighters with torch flames. This has been driven by a rising interest in deluxe cigars and accessories. The advantage with torch flame is that you can light outside in windy situations. Pipesmokers have the same problem. Most smoke outside and lighting you pipe in a windy snow storm can be tricky. Until now we have been reluctant in recommending torch flame for pipes. Simply because you risk burning the pipe wood and often you risk to burn the tobacco so hot that you smoke ashes.

Brebbia has created an innovative pipe lighter with a patented bowl flame and built in pipe tool. The wide and gentle windproof flame spreads optimally for lighting your pipe. It's an piezo electronic lighter which means no battery exchange or flints. Only butane. We recommend for all electronic lighters that you use premium butane. Discount butane contains more oil, dirt and fat. The lighter has 2 years warranty on mechanism and spareparts.

I've been curious about these since I first saw them but at that price point I'm not willing to buy one not knowing if I'll like it or not.

Are you going to try one, Mike?
Nope, not now that it was posted it's a torch lighter. You would think the retailers would have directly addressed the issue of rim burn if they call it a "pipe" light.

My old boy lighters are working just fine (unless it's windy lol).

I think their thinking is that since it forms a dome it's more like taking a hot coal that terminates at a distinct point. But I'm just guessing here.

My brass Zippo armor will out live my grandson's generation. Only if my sons will get the deed done and get me grandkids!!!
You can adopt me and instantly have three cute Asian grandbabies. All I ask is that you leave all your Petersons in your will to me.

I mean, other than pipe tools included, why is that thing $45 or whatever it was I saw? Looks like a $5 lighter... like a bloated Bic (not that there's anything wrong with a Bic) or something. Reminds me of, mostly I saw girls with them, but those plastic chunky lighter sleeves or something, often had a ring for putting on your keyring.

I mean, I do get that even a piezo Bic is a soft flame and they aren't refillable while this is a jet flame and refillable, but that's why said it looks like a $5 lighter as opposed to a $2 lighter.

And I don't see it being better than any other adjustable jet flame lighter, but it's hard to say without seeing the flame in reality.

Im happy with my refillable 1.50 sidekicks. Sure, they are not great in the wind but the flame is soft. You would have to work pretty hard to burn a rim.

I bought 1--- from the DANISH PIPE SHOP : It was Very Good--- while it worked, but Unfortinately it did Not last very long ( rather cheaply made of Plastic, I suppose-- in....China...; after perhaps some 30---50 lights// sparks,--- it stopped working. I send it back to Denmark, it could Not be repaired---and I got a Full Refund : the DANISH PIPE SHOPE-- GOOD Service, as their usual. so, because of the poor Quality of build,--I do NOT recommend that ( Brebbia ( in name only) lighter.....
