Wow ! Does that bring back memories from my childhood !! The version I was told (last century and about 1/2 a century ago) was :
"WHEN I WORKS
I works hard.
When I sits,
I sits loose.
And when I thinks,
I falls asleep "

I believe your version is from Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne.

@Hillcrest - so many say (incidentally, he was a dedicated pipe smoker and his great-niece is a friend of mine), but it's not in the Pooh Canon - though he also wrote a bunch of other stuff. Other possible origins are discussed here:

Oh no you're becoming a codger!

Personally, I enjoy choices and variety. I usually have some obscure itch that only a specific blend will scratch. And I love deciding which pipe to smoke.

I've crossed the point of no return; my inheritors are getting plenty of blends and several pipes whether they like it or not.

My wife has instructions on how to liquidate my collection properly and who gets certain things. Now I need to ensure she waits until I am dead.

Since reducing my pipes I feel a lot better as there's far less choice when I come to smoke. I'm hoping the tobacco reduction has the same effect.

Just adding to this thread with a slight update. Still only using four pipes and happy with it. But I've today drastically reduced my burgeoning collection of 'museum' stuff.

I've basically taken out everything that isn't Falcon or directly related. Cabinets look way better than before. And now a little room for those occasional gems that come up from time to time. I have recently bagged some, see the Show Us Your Falcons thread for pics of those.

I got out my meerschaum pipes to have fun with Meerschaum March but the rest of my pipes are still relegated to a storage building in boxes after discovering Falcons.

I kind of feel the same way. I reduced my pipe collection somewhat, but still find an excuse to add the occasional pipe. Tobacco - I have more than I will likely ever need but there’s more that I would like to try, especially from the smaller blenders. I have a bunch of stuff I plan on parting with and I really need to school myself to buy in smaller quantities, especially because I don’t get to smoke all that frequently except in the summer when a bowl a day is standard.

In other words, my intention is to achieve a less-is-more state, but to do that I find a preliminary expansion is necessary in order to effect a reduction.

Best justification for my current behavior that I've heard yet! Do you mind if I borrow it?
