I wiped a little spit on the rim before I lit up so as not to charr it in anyway and I am keeping a paper towel next to me to wipe the rim before any relight. No I am not too anal.

That what I would worry about. Such a gorgeous rim, not to mention the rest of the pipe. I would prob wipe Vasoline on it before any though of a flame going near it! lol
