That is exactly what I would like in a Dublin, I've been thinking about getting a Parks but price and timing have tilted me towards a Rad Dublin. Absolutely love that pipe.

Thanks guys, the nice comments are appreciated.
Allan, I was shocked when he told me it only weighed 40 grams, I figured 48-50 when I first saw it, similar to my first commissioned Dublin.
Brian, I have heard Park makes great pipes, but his prices are significantly higher than Rad and I am not crazy about his new blasting style, it is too rustic for my tastes.
Chris, I only have the one saddle bit Dublin( which I love), now I have two tapered stem ones. I have one of his 2008 SF POY bent Dublins that has a tapered stem. I think I like the tapered on the Dublin a bit more.

Congratulations Harris on your new pipe. That is an excellent Labor Day reward to yourself. Soon you might have a 30 day set to last thru most months.

Yowza! Perfect shape, the stem work is, as usual, perfect, and that gold fleck ferrule is amazing.

Wowzer. I'm at a loss for words on this one, except to say that the shape of that bowl is impressive -- a magnificent Dublin, to say nothing of the blast. I have a feeling this will be one of your favorite pipes.

Thanks guys, I was also blown away when I saw the pics, can't wait to see it up close and personal.
Chris, I forgot about another Rad Dublin I have with a saddle stem, so that does make two. I now have 4 Rad Dublins and I think I am going to go for 7 so I can smoke one every day.

The pipe just came in and I loaded it with Escudo. I need another Vaper Rad( I have 3 other Rad's dedicated to Vapers) so I am dedicating it to Escdudo and Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls exclusively. The pipe is performing as expected, cool and dry, real comfy and the looks are even better than the pics. I wiped a little spit on the rim before I lit up so as not to charr it in anyway and I am keeping a paper towel next to me to wipe the rim before any relight. No I am not too anal.

Magnificent pipe, Harris. It must be a real pleasure to smoke. I am envious and hope to purchase a Rad one day. Been saving my pennies (uh, make that dollars). Congrats.

Great news Harris. Glad ya love it buddy. I only have the one Rad Dublin but I certainly see a few more in my future once I complete the Double Mahogany Blast Seven Day Set. I also would like to obtain a set of Rad Bing's. I do have another one of those in queue presently with a mahogany blast as I have pipes 3,4, & 5 ordered for the set.

Awesome as always Harris. Nothing anal about preserving a wide rim of that quality. Rad's are without a doubt going to fall into high end artisan collectable pipes in the decades to come, condition on used pipes will be very important. As pipe collecting by non-smokers and former smokers grows even faster than people who smoke, Harris's collection is spot on.
If I had to make a guess on the weight would be the age and treatment of the briar. Most briar, even dried still has a moisture content. He's probably had that briar drying for 10 years bleeding every gram of moisture out.

Thanks guys.
tenn, keep saving, it will be worth it.
Chris, can't wait to see the seven day set complete, should be awesome.
Craig, I just read an article where it said that the male plant produces lighter briar than the female. Here is the link. http://www.rdfield.com/previously-published-articl/what-makes-a-good-briar.html

Thanks for that article; it was fascinating. Trouble is, how can one tell if a pipe is from a female or male plant? Female plants smoke hot, male plants smoke cool, if I read correctly. How do you tell?
It is not generally difficult to select a pipe made from well-aged briar by simple visual examination. To put the matter into three words - grain equals age. Be it flame grain, mixed grain, birdseye, straight grain, cross grain, etc. the tighter the grain pattern the older the briar
That's a great tip to know in selecting a pipe.
Naturally aged briar is better than kiln dried because some feel that the resins are baked in the briar if heated as opposed to letting it dry out.
Lots of stuff to know.
Fascinating.

Allan, I am not sure if the artisans can tell if it is male or female from just looking at a cut piece of briar, I cannot get confirmation on this. I also don't think it is as simple as male being a cool smoke and a female a hot one. Too many factors involved I believe.
Peck, I had shirts like that back in the 70's and a fro like that as well. The chicks dug it. lol
