Maybe you are picking a stronger than average lat blend?
Maybe you like it an puff it more?

Hard to say but lat itself doent do it to me...just guessing

I actually puff it more gently, in an effort to avoid light-headedness. The first blend I tried had a higher percentage of latakia, to be sure, but in the blend I have now it's a much lower percentage.

I don't get more nicotine strength from Latakia blends, just more intense flavor in some cases. Maybe the flavor and olfactory impact is having an effect on you? The combination of Latakia and Orientals can be an intense flavor and smell.

It's probably just the blend you picked out. Or maybe your tolerance fluctuates like mine does. There are many strong Englishes and many lighter ones as well. Latakia by itself is not a very strong tobacco.

So far, I've tried 2 blends with latakia. First was Peterson's Early Morning Pipe; next was Peter Stokker Proper English. Both are supposed to be fairly mild, I think?

Some Latakia blends are said to be stronger in nic than others. Nightcap, as an example. Was there a particular blend that gives you that feeling?
True Nightcap has the Perique also and that can up the vitamin N quite a bit. There are plenty of mid - mild English that might fare better.

The Early Morning PIpe is mild to medium and Propper English is medium in strength.
I've never had an issue with either or any other English blends, but maybe take a break from them for a few and then come back and see if anything changes.

Try Peterson's 965. I'd rate it mild to medium. It's very smooth and I certainly don't get any light-headedness.
I'm not generally a fan of Latakia. I enjoy it's user-friendliness and the way it smokes but usually find the flavour astringent and too domineering. And I don't like the pencil lead taste that comes from it. But 965 is a bit special. The pencil taste never really comes through. I almost get it and the tarry smokiness is there but it's really well balanced by mellow cavendish and a touch of sweet spice from the oriental.
I don't smoke much of it and definitely only in the one pipe, but it makes a very satisfying evening sipper.

Fresh blends with latakia, no. But, an aged latakia seems to give me a spin or two. I have a few that have over ten years on them, and they seem to hit me harder than other medium blends.
Keep in mind that I smoke all day, 10 to 12 bowls. I wait till the end of the day to smoke latakia and only in the colder months. But, something magical happens to them with age. I, now, will not smoke a latakia till it has at least 10 years on it, despite the forum echo chamber that says latakia fades with age.

I'm getting close to the point where I will only be smoking 10+ year old Westminster, WhiteKnight, BlackHouse and Magnum Opus.

I loved it when I got to the 3 year mark. Then 5. Now basically 8 across the board.

I concur, age improves Latakia.
