I really enjoyed the sample of last years I had. I'm looking forward to trying this years. L.J. Peretti's make some good tobacco.

My absolute favorite blend of all time has just arrived in the mail today!
A yearly tradition here at Peretti's. Burley of various cuts, Virginia and a blend of rum and fruit juices are mixed and rested, set in a press where the tobacco marries under pressure for 2 days and is aged for one month. Each batch yields only 20 cakes. The final product is a 4 ounce cake that should be broken up and enjoyed.

Hi Crusader, it is hard for me to compare to other blends. I definitely enjoy the burleys and Virginia. It is for me a mild smoke. It is not a goopy aromatic. The "rum and fruit juices" just give to me a pleasant hint of flavor. I think sometimes I taste mulled spices and even a slight Lakeland flavor, but those are both passing. It is really about the tobaccos. A nice cool smoke.

Got a cake from LJP a week or so ago. It was very fresh at that time and is pretty much like their Cuban Mixture... a big burley blend.
This week, still in the brick/bar, the burley has calmed down -- mellowed -- and the seasonal aspects of rum and fruits come through nicely. On the other hand, maybe I've mellowed since then.

I picked up two of the 4 ounce cakes today....and rounded off my order with a tin and 8 ounce bag of Penzance! :)
I've never had their Thanksgiving Cake and have been wanting to get some. With the availability of Penzance today it was an easy decision to add a pair to my order.

I smoked some of this today although not a burley guy....this has mellowed so much it is enjoyable. The fruity undertones and actually a slight bit of spice makes this a go to post thanksgiving meal this year.

I got two blocks of this stuff too. Tried it last year, and came back for more.
It's a good mellow burley smoke. At first light I was a bit shocked by a bit of a soapy / fragrant taste, but that quickly gave way to a nice complex burley mixture that doesn't knock your socks off, it's just plain good! :puffy:

The fruit juice element worries me....is this an all year blend, or would you really only smoke it during the holiday season, to put you in the mood, akin to a pine scented candle? I am very curious though.

I bought five cakes, because my intent is to make it last year-round, or at least five months. They only make it in November, which is a shame, because there is nothing in it specific to Thanksgiving in my mind, like pumpkin or cranberry. It is just a nice and mellow Va/Bur with a slight topping. There is an occasional hint of a Lakeland essence, but that is way in the background.

I'm smoking through my first bowl of this now. My first impressions are that this is a really solid blend! I'm also not into burleys much, but this stuff is very smooth and pleasant. Based on the description I wasn't too sure what to expect especially since I'm not an aromatic kind of guy, but it's very subtle and a light aromatic in my opinion. Definitely not overpowering at all and not a gooper at all.
Highly recommend picking up a cake to try!

Ordered my first one couple of days ago, based on you enablers' comments. I love burley, so I've got high expectations. If I like it I may order a couple more before the end of November. Sounds like maybe it's best to let it air out a couple of days in a mason jar before smoking.
