I've read a few of those linked sites and there is a lot of conflicting or incomplete information (or it's my understanding that's incomplete).
I've got a Meerschaum lined pipe with the white circle & black logo at 12 o'clock on the stem.

On one side it has 96

The other is :

KAYWOODIE

Flame Grain

Meerschaum

Imported Briar
The stinger has a very course thread and 3 holes.
After reading the above links the best I could come up with is after 1947. I think I saw a large catalog of Kaywoodie shapes that made me think mine was from somewhere between '55 and '60.
Am I wrong?

Shur, Kaywoodie over Flame Grain Meerschaum with a 3-hole stinger is probably a late 50s early 60s pipe. Both the stamp and the stinger date it to that time frame.

Pipephil's time line (http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/infos/kaywoodie-timechart.html#1940) dates Prime Grain pipes to 1958-1977. As others have pointed out, though, online information about Kaywoodie dating is imperfect at best. For instance, Kaywoodie Carburetor pipes most likely predate the 1936 introduction date on pipephil's time line. Pipephil seems to rely heavily on published Kaywoodie catalogs, and this reliance may be the source of some of their inaccuracies.

According to Richard Carleton Hacker in his book titled "Rare Smoke - The Ultimate Guide to Pipe Collecting" Kaywoodie Shape Number 51 (which he defines as, "Medium Billiard, short bit") was available from 1935 to 1966. He further states that the Prime Grain model was available from 1960 to 1976.
Given this, it would appear that your pipe might date from 1960 to 1966.
I hope that this information is helpful to you.

If I were to guess the age on this pipe I would put it post-1955, pre-1972. The first from the stamping having "Kaywoodie" stamped over the "Prime Grain" rather than the reverse, the second from the logo style. Again, my guesses.

Sam: Here's a Flame Grain with a four-hole stinger. Shape 99B. Because of the Flame Grain over Kaywoodie, and the 4-hole stinger, I thought it was pre-1955 or so. But now, I'm not sure!

ssjones:
According to Mr. Hacker's book which I previously referenced in this thread, the Flame Grain model dates from 1938 to the present. Shape Number 99B dates from 1947 to 1972. Accordingly, your pipe COULD be, "...pre-1955 or so."
Might the logo on the stem help to further pin down its age?

Hey Al, I think the earlier Flame Grains had Flame Grain in an italics style stamp. Yours appears to be block. I believe that's post mid fifties. I had some meer-lined FGs with a similar stamp that had 3-hole stingers.

Rare Smoke is worth seeking out,

despite some flaws, it's a good book to have.
Be patient and look around and you'll be able to find it for $20-$30...
