The path Canada was walking down under Harper was dangerous, in my opinion, so change was necessary. Nonetheless, as with most elections, it feels like I am voting for the lesser of the evils as opposed to who I feel can actually govern the country.

Yep. I thought Trudeau and the Liberals would show well but didn't see a majority coming.
I'm not quite sure what I think of Trudeau. I'm going to wait and see. I know what I think of the outgoing PM though. Sadly it's a case of taking the evil I don't know over the one I do. Not the best scenario but it is what it is.

Well the country sure turned out and voted for the guy. I was surprised by the majority and happy to see a change. Every time there is an election here I just want the first past the post system to go away. As an Australian I have come to really like the preferences system. I don't think as much of the compulsory voting but that is a different issue.

Google "Drudge". It is more or less a compendium of news stories from around the world. Many of the stories are ones which the major US media do not want to cover. Sometimes the stories get legs and then the "biggies" must investigate and report stories which do not fit with prejudices and templates.

Personally I think the change is a step backward and we will pay dearly for it. There is no doubt in my view that Harper's fiscal management is the reason we weathered the global financial collapse as well as we did compared to most other nations (and all of the other G8 nations). And he kept taxes down. I don't like many of the things he did outside the fiscal realm but for me it is a question of choosing the tallest midget in the parade and I think he was the tallest amongst that motley crew. (I see my American friends will have to choose their own tallest midget very soon.)
We are turning hard left with the Liberals who are fundamentally a socialist party who have promised to "tax the rich" because they "aren't paying their fair share". In Ontario, by the way, folks in the top income bracket already pay a shade under 50% (49.64% to be precise) in income taxes (with non-income taxes on top of that) and Trudeau has promised to raise the top rate to 54%. In my job I am already seeing the turmoil and it has only been less than 24 hours - no one would choose to locate a head office here if their executives are faced with that level of tax and decisions are being made to go elsewhere. You just can't attract talent. Trudeau is a Grade 3 drama teacher and a trust fund baby and he doesn't realize that people in that tax bracket also sign pay cheques. The whole thing is blatant class warfare of the worst kind and I believe we will be worse off for it.

Maybe we will see an exodus of hipsters and they will migrate to Canada. Could be good for us here. Trump should build a super highway to hasten the exodus.

The Liberals are pretty far to the left on the spectrum, literally bumping into the NDP. Then there is the Conservative party, way on the right with a wasteland in between. Weren't the Libs more centrist say 10 years ago?
I've been wondering what might have happened had Harper stepped down before the election call. There was huge momentum in the 'Stop Harper' campaign, which I read to be a bit different than a 'Stop the cons' campaign. My feeling is that, strong financial leadership notwithstanding, Harper's time was up and, without a new face leading the Cons, Trudeau was in the right place at the right time. Now I guess we get to see what he's made of.
Edit : I heard something about a moratorium being placed on hipster migration pending a security review. Stat tuned.

To be fair, Churchill was pro Union, which is now seen as communist in the UK. Or as seen by my farming pals over yonder. The great Maggie Thatcher would shake her head in dismay at the current taxes. It's just a case of the have nots, that continue to not want to work, plaguing working people. i do believe in the hand up, not hand out, capitalist policies.

I too have felt this way for many elections now.
I solidly agree with this as well. We are in for a very rough ride with a Liberal majority. Give this clown any other sir name and he's not even in the running! As a hunter and a firearms owner this is absolutely worst case scenario.
Sometimes I wish I could travel 20, maybe 40 years ahead to see how things shake out. This is one of those times.
To me there is something incredibly psychological about crossing the 50% tax threshhold. I pay a shit load of taxes and can live with that, but once you tell me that the government is taking more than half of every dollar I earn because "I'm not paying my fair share", then man, I have a real problem with that. Jesus, even the NDP, an admitted socialist party, agreed with that principle and promised not to raise personal income tax rates because they felt crossing the 50% threshhold was a bridge too far.
I am just dumbfounded.
