All this is to find a finish for three pipes to gift a new piper (as in smokes, wants a pipe, but has none) So three unfinished Lorenzo pipes awaiting a finish.

Ooo, so you're a pipe maker.

Well, you've three pipes, and you've three major finishes: smooth, rusticated, and sandblasted.

Now it's only a matter of deciding which pipe gets which. ?

If you do go for the smooth finish, may I suggest you apply it to the bent pot? The stem line is just such a continuation of the shape, tapering to such a thin end without ridges or interruptions, that it already conveys 'smoothness'.
