I'm not a fan of Country Squire's blends so the whole affair seems like a waste of McClelland tobacco to me. But I suppose that for fans of their blends this must represent a welcome treat. In the calculus of tobacco blending, spiking average tobaccos with premium leaf doesn't always create an improvement. Even creating blends with 100% premium leaf often doesn't end well depending on the components, proportions and processes. But here's to the latest in an apparently endless series of small batch releases ?

Well, that is usually the case. But, Shortcut to Mushrooms was an amazing blend that was created using McClelland tobacco. So magic can occur on occassion.

Agreed! Much credit to the blender's craft, one does not make a legendary blend simply by throwing good leaf together in a jar.

Well, the Whale Song has arrived. For those of you who ordered some, I'd like to know your impressions. As with a lot of tobacco purchases, this was a knee jerk for me. I initially only purchased it because I thought I was actually getting 4.5 oz for $14.98. I should have know this wasn't true. I ordered two "units" and each unit seems to be maybe 2 oz but looks more like maybe 1.5 oz. Oh well, at least each unit came packaged in a nice little box with a string tied around it. Hopefully it will be a good smoke and if so, I'll soon forget the cost paid. I'll share my observations when I get around to smoking some.

Just got my 3 boxes. The Site and Receipt show's 4.5oz per box.

I reckon that 4.5 oz includes the box. At any rate, I just finished a bowl of it and I don't imagine I'll worry about the cost too much. I thought it was quite good. My initial impressions were very favorable. I'm certain I'll enjoy smoking it. I won't get into how blends containing McClelland tobacco does or does not taste like such and such, but I definitely could taste the influence in the bowl I just smoked. Again, very good in it's own right in my humble opinion.

Its a decent blend. Definite hype with what it is. I would take Rouxgaroux over this having sampled both.

Bag note is not reminiscent of McClelland in the least.
Not really, no.
If the virginias had been sourced from Mcclelland I'd think they'd say so. Maybe it was the perique (which isn't some big deal), or my first thought was "pshhh I bet it's just the cavendish".

Certainly not a "ketchup bomb".
BUT I'm smoking a bowl now and it's quite enjoyable. Not a hint of bite, and some good flavors from the stoved Va and perique.

I gave it a go with another pipe. Sweetness was a bit better. Dark fruits picked up. Definitely not picking up the traditional McClelland Ketchup VA strain.

First Impression, a very enjoyable blend. Certainly not a McClelland ketchup bomb by any means, but a very nice sweet, mildly tangy vaper. Glad I got it, but anyone expecting to go “aaahhhh, mcclelland tobacco!” ….. think again.

Stands on its own just fine, love the perique presence.
