Just Noticed an Excise Tax on my Orders!?

I notice some e-tailers like SP automatically charge me excise and sales tax. Others put the burden on me to do it.
Others still don't charge me but notify my state who gets huffy and sends me threatening letters, assuming I had no intentions of paying it. That hurts my feelings.

I was recently ordering a pound of tobacco from South Carolina (as I have done in the past), and the vendor told me I should check Canadian tax requirements, and importation rules before I buy it. So I called the tax people and after an hour on the phone on hold, they finally had to tell be that the pound of tobacco would be $346.00 (ish) delivered to my door. Then they told me it was because "we can't have tobacco getting into the hands of children and teenagers". When was the last time anyone saw a 15 year old with a tobacco pipe, and pouch of Virginia special blend... never. Same argument about cigars... what kid can afford to smoke $85 cigars (Canadian prices).... none of them. It's for the government coffers on both sides of the border I'm afraid.

Educate children? Lol Indoctrinate them is more like it. Here in Michigan the Public school system (as well as our roads) are a complete joke. The money collected goes to buy the "elites" brand new Mercedes Benz, drugs, and escorts. To think money goes to benefit the general public is naieve. Not to jump on your case and say this with all due respect, but I used to believe the same thing but with a little research to follow the paper trail all evidence points to the contrary.

Yes, "education" is a joke for the most part. I also think a lot of the problems kids have these days stem from growing up staring at phone/computer screens which has probably screwed up their wiring and thought processes in much worse ways than is generally recognized. Certain taxes only appear when you order from a vendor that is in your state, in my case there is no way i would order from a FL based vendor when i can order from 30 out of state places that i don't have to pay the excise tax on, but this is just beating a dead horse as it's been posted so much.
