His blends are gone. I suspect that we won’t hear much from Russ because STG are his bosses still. STG shows little interest in producing anything small batch. Maybe he’ll bring them back with entirely STG components with STG’s blessing, but I don’t blame the man for not coming out and biting the hand that feeds him.
Wasn't he also having health issues as well? I wouldn't blame him from taking a step back esp with all this going down.

Well… isn’t that unfortunate. I actually thought Bengal slices was one of the better blends available out of his portfolio, sales wise. Seems like it isn’t. A surprise similar to Mac baren’s HH series.
I don’t think a lot of this is based on sales as much as production values. STG does not have the machines or interest to produce small production runs. Sutliff almost created the niche they filled. And nobody is yet there to fill that gap. Whether Laudisi sees an opportunity here and decides to get more machines and ramp up production remains to be seen.

I concur, but with all production moving to Assens, and no interest in small batch (and ultimately, any new blends it seems) what future do you see for him with his employer?
I’d be surprised if he hasn’t already been shown the hallway to the door.
His job for STG is to be the face of P&C. Not his roll as a blender. That was his passion project.

Profits over people will never result in compassionate or dare I say smart decisions. I feel like “it’s just business” is a conditioned response to being commercially abused.

I will endeavor to acquire more C&D blends before Sikes maybe decides to rid America of its last bastion of pipe tobacco. It sucks cause I’m still a baby in the hobby and my chances of reaching pipe smoking maturity is looking dim. But Im hoping some of you doomsayers are wrong.

The doom and gloom camp has some good points.

Tobacco will not get cheaper
it will not become easier to obtain
The likelihood of it becomming higher in quality is slim
Laws will not become more favorable.

Base your decisions on that. I personally only seek tobacco that I can obtain. Im not going to chase unicorns. I have better things to do...even if its nothing.

There is still plenty of good stuff so learn what you like and try to cellar if you can afford it.

Its not worth getting too upset since it wont help anyway.

Profits over people will never result in compassionate or dare I say smart decisions. I feel like “it’s just business” is a conditioned response to being commercially abused.

One man’s “compassionate” decision is another man’s loss. In this case, the list of blends being continued represents the most profitable products. The least profitable product, to be discontinued, is War Horse, a blend that several folks here are passionate about. In order for STG to move production to DK it has to undergo FDA and EU testing, a high cost that may never be recovered. So, does STG choose to lose money on blends that don’t sell, and short their investors (who undoubtedly include pensioners), just to be “compassionate” to you?

STG’s responsibility is to it’s investors. Like any other company, their mandate isn’t to keep people employed or to provide an obscure product to an ever dwindling customer base. By maintaining profitability they keep the doors open and they keep the last of the most popular blends in production.

And…WTF is “Commercially Abused”?

These dont seem to be new blends but old recipes being revived.
You sure? I've got some of the 2022 Summer Reserve and that's topped with a Gin & Tonic flavouring. I mean, Gawith have been around a long long time so it wouldn't surprise me if they'd made it before but I was under the impression that it was a new blend. Same thing goes for their Reunion Series Bourbon Flake.

My understanding is that Wessex Curly Block is made by STG. I hope that I am correct on this— it is fantastic! Stupidly expensive, but fantastic!
It's interesting that Wessex Curly Block is produced by STG. That is also clear from the uncut coin format. It is essentially the same form (not blend) as Escudo or Navy Rolls before being sliced. STG is the only factory with the equipment to make that size roll. The Mac Baren roll cakes were smaller.

But it also raises the question--if STG could make a small batch of Wessex Curly Block on a contact basis why not other contract blends? The answer might be that the Wessex is indeed the same as some other tinned blend and we just haven't figured it out.

Like others have said all day; this is a very disappointing business decision by STG. Like many others I was hoping a larger number of tobacco's would be saved; however, that is clearly not the case. Which is very unfortunate for all of us. Though many of us will miss out on stocking up on our favorite blends, there are lots of other great tobaccos out there, so on the bright side, going forward you may find new favorites to enjoy.

For those wondering if their favorite brand/line of tobacco's are made by Sutliff, Mac Baren and/or STG; I went out to a few tobacco websites and noted many of the popular tobacco brands. From there I went out to the different brand websites as well as Tobacco Reviews .com to note who manufactures many of the popular blends on the market currently. The Sutliff and Mac Baren brands are noted in Bold, and the STG brands are noted in Italics. As the STG blends will be a future unknown as STG re-evaluates their tobacco portfolio in the future. If anyone notices an error, please feel free to make a correction.

Sutliff also has a large number of blending and bulk tobacco's that will be discontinued based off the previously posted letter from STG. Which means many B&M house blends may be in jeopardy as well.
Sutliff Blending Tobacco's = 25 blends
Sutliff Bulk Tobacco's = 134 blends
Thank you for listing these
