Also a big fan of Eagle Rare...which has become a little scarce here at my local Total Wines. My new favorite bourbon, Old Forrester 1920 "Prohibition" bourbon. 115 proof of goodness!

"I dropped a brand new, unopened bottle of Eagle Rare and it shattered into at least 10 pieces. I cried for 3 hours."

Funny you should say that, last night I was looking at the bottle and thought what a lovely tumbler that bottle would make if I could only cut it just above the eagle's wings!

Regards,

Jay.

Eagle Rare & 4 Roses are solid tipples. Throw in Old Grand Dad Bonded & 114 and I *think* I can weather the hipsters' bourbon buyout. If they start coming for the above, however, then it's fightin' time.

As it is, I try to steer the hipsters I do know towards gin, tequila and canned American beer.

Hipsters are already all over ER10, 4 Roses (above Yellow and small batch), and OGD 114....have been for a couple years. OGD bonded is still pretty freely available; I live right outside Kentucky and have the straight dickens of a time getting OGD 114, which was one of my unsung favorites. Mileage may vary around the country on availability.

Trendy crowd dominating gin currently, rum and tequila falling in right behind. Gin has actually gotten as tough as borubon on certain releases, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to chase gin (and I really like gin) ;) . Trendienest has brought a lot of welcome selection and quality improvements to the gin/rum/tequila categories.....but whew lad, for sure some downside on price and shelf-avaiability. I've bought Foursquare special rum releases for a decade as the only guy putting in a special order at a store....now that jazz is on lottery.

Have deeper pockets and buy more than just trendy stuff. Get to know the owners/managers. Build rapport until they call you when they have something before they put it on the shelf.

Hipsters don’t have people skills.

Found on Etsy:

They're a bit pricey though at $50 for the pair.

WOW Shanez, I really need to look into how to go about it now I've seen one.

I have a Dremmel with flexible drive shaft but did spy on Youtube the 'burning string' method.....looks a bit hit and miss to me.

Will speak to my neighbour, he might know how to go about it.

Regards,

Jay.

I would hazard a guess that a lot of the people on etsy are using one of, if not something very similar to, these:

Once the bottle is cut you could easily polish the edge with your dremel to remove any sharp edges and make it comfortable to drink from.

Pretty sure your correct. I have a friend who does stuff like this and uses something very similar for the process. Also she drills wine bottles and fills them with Christmas lights for some cool little decorations. You can imagine how bananas my wife went with that when she found out, given that our wedding reception was at a vineyard and we’d bought a barrel and had custom labels made for the bottles to give out to attendees. We now have an overwhelming display of vanity in the house in the form of Christmas light lit wine bottles with our mugs on them.

I'm not a Bourbon expert, but anything Four Roses is good for me. The Single Barrel and the Small Batch are both fantastic, and the standard yellow label is rock solid as well.
