Just a little experiment.

So I figured some of you may be interested in this experiment I am doing. I'm growing some tobacco indoors next to a window with some cheap low power LEDs. I plan on upgrading the leds once I have some more disposable cash. I don't plan on getting much but figured why not, already had a pot and potting soil lying around and the led light I use to start seeds for spring time. I just wanted to see if growing tobacco indoors cheaply was an option for city folk and apartment dwellers. Here's a pic of the plant as of two days ago. I also have a plant in a tiny bonsai pot as well to see how that turns it. This plat is a rustica variety, claims the seed stock was found in an 1000 year ago pot, which I doubt a tobacco seed would remain viable for 1000 years but whatever lol. I plan to keep this thread updated if anyone is interested.

Rustica is some good stuff. It is the base plant for all other tobaccos. Have fun.

I figured I'd update this thread once a weekish. So far it's looking pretty good, gave it a low dose of fertilizer and have been watering it with the water from my fish tank when I do my water changes. Would probably be bigger if it had more than the winter light from a window and a cheap 17 watt LED grow light.

Also here is a pic of the one I'm going to grow start to finish in a tiny bonsai pot, just curious if desktop tobacco was even an option. Hopefully it will al least produce a single bowl lol. It was started a little after the other plant and is also a rustica type but a different strain.

Can you brew tea from that?

I suppose you could make tea but I wouldn't use much. I once got nicotine positioning when I was younger and was cutting tobacco on a tobacco farm, for some reason I thought I didn't need to wear my gloves. All the tobacco juices and tars on my hands led to me absorbing a ton of nicotine and I got still as hell. Lots of vomiting and couldn't get outta bed the next day. Was fine the day after and back in the field but with gloves on lol.

Just another update. The larger one is getting pretty leggy. I'm guessing due to the inadequate lighting. Also I accidentally broke one of the leaves off while watering it. So I'm going to do another experiment where I try to "Flue" cure it in a food dehydrator with wet sponges in the bottom to keep the humidity up. Probably wont work but it's worth a shot.Heres some pics.

If that is truly a "Rustica" variety, and the roundness of the true leaves leads me to believe it probably is, then be careful if you plan on smoking it....Nicotine content off the charts.

I grew up in NC. Me and a buddy, around 10 years old, “liberated” about a dozen tobacco plants from a farmers freshly planted field. We had the bright idea of intermingling them among my mother’s various plants in her flower beds around the house. Well, to say the least, Mom wasn’t pleased when she noticed tall, wide leafed plants towering above her begonias. She knew exactly what they were. Let’s just say I got very familiar with the business end of her fly swatter. Adding insult to injury, she personally supervised me pulling them up and throwing them into the woods behind our house. I was pissed. Looked like a promising crop!

Just another update. Not much really going on. Really need to upgrade the lighting, I feel they should be bigger by now. Also planning on putting a plant or two outside come spring. Will be in 20ish gallon pots on my balcony since I am an apartment dweller. Does anybody have any suggestions on to what types or strains a should try?

Just another update, I think the bigger one may have some type of wilt, the lower leaves keep turning yellow and drying out,I would think they where just needing harvesting but I feel it's too early. But it did bloom today, I'm going to let it flower out for seeds. I doubt topping it would really give me much more yeild. Here's some pics. Should be harvesting in a few weeks
