Now that John Cotton's Smyrna is no longer in production, here is a rough approximation of the formula, using Sutliff tobaccos (as long as they are available).
I don't know if these are the exact same tobaccos used in the final product, but it will put you in the ballpark.

TS19 is described in Sutliff"s literature as "Ribbon cut Smyrna grades"

That is a lot of Latakia.
I guess that depends on what Latakia you use!
Seriously, whatever Latakia was used in this blend originally is probably no longer available. But then, ALL leaf availability changes over time, right? Especially the high quality, hand-picked products. I have at least 5 different bulk Latakias, all of them different!

Nice, was always curious about this blend. I have the TS19 and some C&D Lat...a few different Red VAs I could use. Ill give it a whirl.
If you ask around there are tins of it still about. Sadly I gave away all the tins I had from the launch otherwise I would offer to send you one. I know it was wildly popular and some people purchased 50+ tin lots as Dan I met them on the two occasions when we did shows for Standard Tobacco of PA.

Hold the phone. You didn’t grow your tobacco in an oil field in Pennsylvania?

Rumor has it that @woodsroad is about to launch a range of Standard Tobacco Co of PA 'glow in the dark' prophylactics with the words War Horse stamped on the side and a horse head as the 'teat' on the tip. Before they are unrolled they will just say W.H when fully installed on an erect member it will say 'War Horse'. If you are on the smaller side it will just say 'War' which should keep the wife happy.

Smoked a sample bowl this morning and was amazed at how oriental-forward and non-Lat-bomb it was, given that it’s 45% Latakia versus 33% Smyrna/Izmir.

My blending tobaccos were pretty dry, not quite crispy but not moist at all, so it took to the match with one go. A minor touch-up light midway through the bowl was more for something to do rather than of necessity.

The tin note is pretty much all Latakia, but the room note (well, front porch note in my case) was that oriental incense note that just screams “comfort” to me. The red Virginia was unnoticeable, but I was very impressed overall. It was delicious, no bite, not too hot, gave a good 45-50min smoke in a Hilson 223.

A small amount of dottle left, just the tiniest bit of moisture in the bowl when tamped out.

This is a great blend. I might play with the Virginia, but it’s tasty the way it is.
