The whole "shaken not stirred" thing is a huge disservice to neophyte drinkers everywhere. Stirred I tell ya. If you want your gin to get all bruised and bitter with the ice broken in a bad way go ahead and order it shaken for a crappy martini.

If you think about it Bond was in his early 40's when Fleming wrote the books. So what you have today is a very old guy with a sixty a day cigarette habit, possible emphysema, damaged liver with every venereal disease known and unknown to mankind! In retirement I would imagine he would be like this....

Here
I just found out that the new Bond film music is done by Billie Eilish. Another icon of my childhood has fallen.

How many Eilish songs have you heard. She has a variety of interesting cadences and styles. Bond movies are always showcasing the "what's currently hot" artists in their soundtracks.

If you want your gin to get all bruised and bitter...

Pardon my ignorance. How does one bruise a liquid?

RIP

That is all.
I took a listen to the opening theme on youtube.com. Its actually not bad imo and stays true to the sensibility of the other bond opening songs.

The movies will return to normal. The new woke versions of classics (woke types aren't original enough to actually write something original, they have to glom onto something that is already a success) don't create the demand the original versions did. But Bond will always be a draw, and the only thing Hollywood loves more faux virtue is cold hard cash.
As for the music, it is what it is.

By ordering it shaken not stirred.

Given how persnickety pipe smokers can be (with the attendant jargon) perhaps you can entertain my similar interest in the finer details of drinking. When a drink is shaken it can cause the outcome to be a turbid mess. This is caused by air bubbles and little bits of ice . Some claim that is also messes with the oils in gin. I know I don't like the way a maritini feels in my mouth when shaken, and I think I like the taste better when stirred. I'm wiling to concede the later point may be psychological. Bruising may not be the best choice of words but it is the one that has been used to describe this particular way of ruining a martini.

My wife always orders here Martini's stirred as she hates 'bruised' gin. The shaken not stirred thing was invented by Ivar Bryce I believe who was a childhood friend of Flemings or maybe Guy Hamilton one of the better known Bond film directors. No doubt there are hundred different theories about it and we will probably never know.

Same with Manhattans, who wants foamy booze, unless you take it with an umbrella and then it doesn’t matter ;)

Which calls into question the conventional wisdom that everything Hollywood does has only a profit motive...because there now seems to be a pattern of PC financial failures, yet they persist in cranking them out anyway.

Is it really possible to get excited about a James Bond movie? Bille Eilish hasn't killed anything that wasn't already dead.
couldn't agree more. Though Bond is so deeply rooted in a certain time and the attitudes of that time that he really doesn't translate to now so good. Not even in a people being too a certain way and being uptight, just not relevant to now (at least not in a way that makes sense to throw millions of dollars at making and expect a return) well that's my opinion on the character.

Hollywood is always trying to figure out what makes a movie sell. And they often pick the least important parts. I guess it's easier to just say if a movie was enjoyable or enriching to see when you aren't risking your lively hood and lots of other peoples money and your own. There are always so many examples of a great movie getting all of the least important parts of formula copied to death. Too top that off worst thing about is that now movies are really international and make as much money in the foreign markets or more, so they're trying to not offend sensibilities of a huge group of dispersed people in various parts of the globe who are all offended by different things. Where most of our lives they've just worried about the domestic market. Well until that Water World movie ruined everything by being a huge hit in China.

This is supposed to be the last actual James Bond movie, they're replacing him with a woman. I only like the Roger Moore Bond movies.
I have to admit I'd think a female bond could be awesome. I don't think it would be. But if they pulled it off it could be good. Though rumors like that pop up again and again and most of the time it's from some off hand statement someone made that in no way says that's what is happening. I remember one time on this franchise someone said they didn't see a reason Bond has to be white and suddenly someone not white was supposedly the next Bond and you just wait and see. That will only be a real possibility if the current Bond movie crashes really hard.
Oh what would make it good if they let the statement stand and just focused on making a good adventure movie with over the top elements that are larger then life. If they did that people wouldn't care too much, you know as long as they still had fun when watching. But we all know that's not very likely.
