I live about 12 hours away from Van Erck in Michigan. Some day I hope to visit the shop if possible. If I bought a similar pipe, I could likely smoke it all the way home without a refill!
Primarily a tribute purchase for the person (Von Erck) that was instrumental in getting my late friend and favorite pipe maker Bruce Weaver into carving, it is probably going to be a display only piece but definitely my size of pipe.

Throwing it away when you get tired of it?
It's connected to Bruce, so worth more than thousands of Dunhills. Though not acquired to smoke, it'll be with me until death. Were that not the case, only badly drilled pipes or ones with chambers of less than a 2 inch depth have been thrown out.
