To be blunt, I've always wondered why anyone would continue to stockpile tobacco after they've accumulated a "lifetime's" worth.
A new blend gets released, perhaps.

Or maybe they don’t know if they’ll be smoking one bowl a week or one bowl a day in twenty years.

My problem seems to be my Acquiring new tastes. I fall in love with English blends, so I've got to have enough. Then Vap ers, need plenty of this. Then Virginia, more please. Now I find myself liking Lakeland blends, a new hunt commences. Oh pipe tobacco I lust for you.❤

For the same reason a dog licks it's own balls .... because he can.

On a more serious note, there is bound to be some wastage over time. While I technically have enough to last me a lifetime, But I still have some gaps in some of my favorites. I will shore up the quantities on a few. Other than that, I won't be purchasing much more as there is no need to. I'll buy more pipes.

Until Monday this week I had enough tobacco for about 10-12 weeks, on Monday a mate brought me some so I now have double that, so I'm good until around the end of July

So in answer to the opening question... Jeez I hope not!!

edit: maybe its just my device but the spaced out text format in the blog linked in the OP made it very difficult to read, it was like reading a series of headlines

Maybe, but probably not for me. I've collected many many tins for 25+ years, like....way over the top, filling file cabinets and storage boxes....but only smoke a dozen of the blends...and half or more of the ones I like are no longer available. There are maybe half a dozen or so blends still made today that I will continue to buy and cellar. There are far more excellent blends out there I'm sure, but I'm set in what I like.

When I find the time I need to sell or trade off maybe 50% of this stuff. I'll trade for or buy the blends I prefer where I can. I've started to sell and buy via pipestud from time to time...Steve is a swell guy.

At my current rate of consumption I have enough tobacco for 300 years. However, if I start smoking regularly again (assuming I can get my balcony pigeon-proofed) I've got about 3-6 years. As soon as the current crop of moving bills are paid off, I should be able to start building my cellar again.

Haven't noticed any MIRV nukes incoming, so I guess I'll last longer than just today (cold-war reference). Nope, to the original question.

Until a couple of years ago, I was only in the habit of buying tobacco when I was about to run out of whatever it was I had on hand. Slow going as I am, I only have a few pounds and a couple dozen tins all told.
