Im not huge pipe collector as I'm more about the tobacco... with that said I think I'll always be open to the right pipe at the right price at the right time... of course I'm also the guy that bought 1 pipe last year and it was a cob  so yeah!

I was pretty much done, had all the artisan made pipes I could ever want at 40, and was not looking for more. But nnnnnnoooooo, I have to hang out here, the most enabling site on the entire world wide web. So I bought another 4 artisan pipes, plus now I am buying freaking Pre Transition Barling's. There is no end in site, there never will be, I am a slave to PAD. I now have my Savinelli 36 count cabinet full. I have a round 6 pipe holder and an older square type holder both full. I have no where else to put pipes so I have to go buy another holder. It will never freaking end.

I like to buy a pipe or two or three a year if I can. Whether its an artisan pipe I commission, a new factory pipe, or an estate pipe off ebay. If I got money in my pipe account and I find a pipe that catches my eye then I will buy one. Being that I've just recently bought two pipes and a third one is on the way, I'm set for a while. Especially since my pipe budget is gone.

Truth to tell, my collecting has slowed down, and I'm getting ready to thin out the herd. It's March and I haven't bought a single pipe, nor felt any great urge, and only a few tins of weed. Unless I'm confronted with something very special, for which I'm willing to go to financial war to get, I'm done. Note, I've left a crack in the door, but it's a tiny one.

That's awesome; you guys actually have a plan and aesthetics and stuff. I'm just a philistine who buys randomly and mostly smokes cobs out of pure laziness. As far as buying pipe-weed goes, I can never have enough Royal Yacht.

I am almost done. I am looking for the right Becker. Then I'll be done for a while, maybe forever, maybe not.
That's pipes, Tobacco? Not even close.

I have also gotten to the point where I no longer feel the need to buy every pipe I see and I am drawn more to quality than quantity. So I only buy the pipes that speak to me. As it turns out, however, I still hear plenty of pipe voices in my head.

I'm kind of a rare breed here. I get one every few years, simply because I usually don't want many, just one magic pipe, and then I want to smoke no other.

I'm a monosmokist.

That and I just don't collect things other than experience and memories. Don't see the point in owning something that don't use, and once I have a favorite pipe, all others pale in comparison.

My problem is my wife likes to walk around antique & collectible shops and I usually have to go with her. Then she will see an old pipe and ask me about it and tells me to buy it if I want to. 75% of my pipes were collected like that. She has also bought me 5 new pipes as presents over the past couple of years.

Uh, like Mr. Twain, it's easy to stop. I've quit collecting a thousand times!
Then, I see a Ser Jacopo, a Pete, a Sav, a Dunny, an Ashton, a Wiley, a Boswell, a Rad, on and on it goes.
I have told myself that I am through. I have more than 200 pipes! I have enough tobacco in my cellar to last my lifetime.
And yet. And yet, on and on I go deeper into this hobby, searching for the holy grail of pipes and tobacco!

I have a few dozen and buy less frequently than in the past. However, I'll buy my next pipe for the same reason I bought the first one. I buy pipes that catch my fancy. It could be shape, finish, style, history or a combination. However, since I own so many now, it would have to be a SPECIAL pot, poker or what have you before I would buy another.
I also tend to focus on specific brands. I love Savinellis but already own at least one of the shapes I like, so I don't buy them often anymore. Same with Stanwells and Neerups.
Also, like others, I tend to buy better crafted pipes than when I first started collecting. In reality, I can't afford to buy as many.
Most collectors of anything get more selective as their collections grows.

Yes I have an end to collecting, both for tobacco AND pipes, that stops when I die.
As for it stopping before that, it may or may not happen.

I represent the new evolutionary step of Pirates.

I don't want to hoard flashy new furry rugs. I focus on acquiring that one raggedy flying carpet.
It's not about how much you get, it's about what you get and getting it. And after two tours of duty, I ain't shipping nowhere. Gonna sit back here and enjoy every moment of watching the kettle boil, the paint dry, and game of thrones. =)

Death or bankruptcy.
I am more selective of what I buy now but I'm always looking for that next diamond in the rough. I've acquired about 30 pipes this year. 10 per month isn't that bad is it?

As the old joke goes, I'm not buying any more. I'm not buying any less either.
