Understood, you just had a run of bad luck. I had one almost identical from a very reliable Artisan. I patched it a little then just smoked it. Can't even tell it was ever there now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

This is really encouraging, thanks

Must admit this whole situation stressed the hell out of me. I paid over 600 euros for 2 pipes.

Will let you all know how this turned out after I get a reply from Savinelli.

It's fortunate that you purchased from Savinelli, although any authorized dealer ought to be willing to take back a defective pipe, especially so soon after purchase. For the original buyer, Castello warranties their pipes for one year against burn-out. Not sure what they would do about pits but I would hope that any reputable pipe-maker would want to satisfy a good customer like you.

You have little to lose (but time) in contacting Savinelli and seeing what they will do. Maybe they will surprise you - it's not like they don't have inventory to make good - and while a burned rim is user error - it's not possible (IMO) for you to have caused this.

So recently I bought this Savinelli Autograph (brand new) and looks like there is a "hot spot" or something (not sure what's the word, looks like a hole started developing there). I'm smoking pipes for around 15 years and this never happened before.
I'm 100% sure I didn't smoke it hot. The chamber was "precarbonized" from the factory.

Is this something to worry about, or should I just go ahead and smoke it? Return it to Savinelli? Make ash+spit cement and fill it?

Thanks
You could send it to Walker or Briarville for a refresher if you’re not handy. Or, you could ask the guy to return some of the funds. Or, you could send it back to the dealer. However, it appears you want to keep this…so I guess sending it back is out of consideration.

So, I’d just start smoking it. Overtime, the fissure will seal/heal over and be fine. Enjoy your Autograph. ?☕

Get some pipe mud from Scott over at Aristocob. I've used it. Highly recommended.

OK, they replied.
They said their expert or whatever said it's because of the "excessive heat during smoking pipes and the excessive use of pipe companion".

Soooooo, all I have to say is FUCK Savinelli, I will never ever buy their shit again.
The pipe was obviously coated because they saw the imperfection before putting it to sale.

Just to confirm once again - FUCK SAVINELLI.

I have a bunch of "low end" pipes, all 15+ years old, never ever had a problem, not once.

OK, I get it, you can't know how the wood will behave, but they refused to return it. Enough for me.

Same with me and Dan tobacco. I never liked sav anyways so they are now fully struck off my list.
