I’ve written this elsewhere, but this thread reminds me of when I was facilitating a workshop and there was an older Irish chap there. We were sharing about things/items of cultural significance and he pulled out a plug knife from his pocket. He said every Irish man will carry a knife in their pocket even if they don’t smoke plugs. I then pulled out my jar of Irish condor plug, and opened it so he could smell it.

he smiled and said that’s the stuff. And went on to explain how 50 years ago or so he used to work in the air conditioning business and whenever he would go to gallahers for a job he would leave smelling like condor for a fortnight

The Gallaher factory in Ballymena was bought by Wrightbus (a neighbouring bus manufacturers).

Wow, their site says, worlds first hydrogen powered double decker bus... ? pretty cool... ?

Considering Gallaher was around since 1857, and the importance of tobacco in Irish history, it would be a fitting tribute to call something within the company Condor.

I would only think it would never be done, because someone despises tobacco, or legal reasons, or simply wanting to break from the past.

hmm ?

I read something a few years ago, not sure if it's 100% true, that none of the Irish whiskey distilleries are actually owned by Irish families or Irish companies anymore. I found that sad.

And let’s not forget Laudisi owns Peterson.

I guess America is going to own Ireland one day, or is that the Chinese... LOL ?

While we’re chatting Condor, I wanted to ask, does anyone know how many blends Gallaher made?

I never saw that Irish Cake before.

Oh, and is there a big difference between the RR and plug?

Loads. The number of blends that were made back in the 1960s and before would take all evening to list. As to the difference between RR and the plug it depends which era you are talking about. I have my own opinions on the subject as do others. Broadly speaking the plug tastes better and burns slower. I suppose it is like Condor Flake on steroids.
