Another nice iteration for Apple with the 7. I think being water resistant required the removal of the headphone jack.

I'm still using the same clam shell I've used for the past 10 years. It doesn't have any of the features of smart phones. It's an LGVX8360 which simply picks up and holds a call in areas of weak reception where smart phones croak out. That's a feature that has come in handy many times.
Other than being a dependable phone, it's fairly useless. I like that. Besides everyone around me has a smartphone, so I get to use their phones' capabilities, like GPS or often crappy route suggestions, if I need it.

I just got a new Iphone 6s a few months and although I love new tech, I am not one that adheres to programmed obsolescence. So I guess I'll use this one until I feel like it's time to change, in 2 years or so. I kept my iphone 5s for a long long time.

The best phone phone I ever had was Motorola v170 , that thing could receive and make calls from anywhere .I now have a Motorola smart phone with Android and it just works and holds a charge for three days . What I really like is I don't have to buy a app to make it work . It does not care where my music came from to play it . Syncs perfectly with my Alpine stereo for calls or blue tooth music in my pickup . It charges via a standard mini usb cord . Yeah they didn't move one wire so they charge more . If I want to take pictures I use a Olympus camera , When I want to play games or surf the web I use a desktop . A phone should excel at one thing ,and that is being a phone .

The lack of headphone jack is a major drawback for anyone with a car that doesn't have bluetooth, and even those with early ('08-'10 in many models) Bluetooth that works for calls but not streaming. True you can hook it up to the aux input jack using the lightning plug adapter, but then there's no way to charge the phone while driving and listening to music or using the phone's GPS through the car speakers. My car does have bluetooth streaming so it wouldn't be an issue for me, but it may be for people with 4-5 y.o. and older cars unless they want to pay for installing a new head unit.

Your phone may only need to do one thing well. I have come to rely on a smart phone which can do many things exceedingly well. I'd have to carry an extra bag full of information I must have in my line of work. Now it all goes on a smart phone or iPad. One of the most important is that I can turn it into a secure "hot spot" which allows me to use my computer or iPad in the boonies (cell service needed of course). In this manner I can avoid using open, often times crowded and slow hot spots in cafes, campgrounds and the like. And, I do not need to pay a provider for service for the computer and iPad.
I swore I wouldn't become dependent on technology, I haven't totally, but it sure makes earning more money easier. Yes, I can work without such but, it would cost me money and time. I may be retired from my career job but, more money is always good and I like my self-employed income.

I agree. My iPhone does many things very well. Maybe not in a corporate environment (see Peck's list) but for my life and style (not lifestyle!) it's just fine.

This idea that Apple, the richest, most successful company in the world, would risk its most profitable product to sell more headphone is insane.

As I said above I like their products. They totally do what they have been offered for. But, how in the world you think they are making profit? If you can't sell smartphones, then sell headphones. That's what keeps them alive, selling more.

It's a great toy, but horrible for e-mail intensive business functions.

As a former BB user, I totally agree with Peck on this one. iPhone really sucks when it comes to mails. I wouldn't even compare BB to an iPhone in email handling. I tried built in Mail app, I tried Inbox by Gmail app, I even tried another famous Mail app on iPhone, but no results. As Peck stated above, you couldn't do server search on iPhone mail app few years ago. I used to use my BB for emails when I was living and working in South Korea (I was out of office most of the time, meeting with the suppliers and emailing continuously to our main office), it was working like a charm, even my boss was getting surprised when I was receiving the same email a minute or so earlier than him. Now, I am in an office from 9 to 6 so I just check emails from my PC and I use an iPhone without any problem. However, if I become a businessman or if I start doing something similar to my previous job, I will totally trade my iPhone for a BB.

There is no reason they could not include a headphone jack and bluetooth capability. Of course they just want to sell more headphones, which you will need to play music on your new iPhone.

when iPhone and iPod were first making it big I figured out that owners were being herded to the Apple store, the only place to download media to those devices, I vowed to never buy an Apple device and still wont, my HTC has never let me down and I can download media and get accessories anywhere

I have always seen apple as a cult and find the people in it a little creepy. I see perfectly normal people suddenly change when they get on the subject of apple. Their eyes literally develop the same creepy look I see in the brainwashed.
I remember seeing a documentary about the company and how they go about opening a new store and launching products. It confirmed my suspicions. Large groups of staff whooping and waving their hands in the air and whipping people up into a frenzy much like some evangelical preacher. Ever noticed how their stores look like temples?
Not all apple users are in the cult of course and for many, it is just a tool and I can see why people like some of the products. They are well built and pleasing to the eye. For me, however, the stuff is just way overpriced and I hate and I do mean hate the way they function.
As for the creepy look in people's eyes. I suspect I have the same look in my eye when people show an interest in my pipes or I talk about aviation. Pick your obsession and run with it I suppose.

Meh. I like headphones. I haven't seen the adapter yet, but the idea of using one at all seems to be a bit of a kludge. Have had an iPhone for at least 6 years.

Yeah you are correct. People who love the brand, love the brand and their products. The truth is that there's nothing exciting about Android. It illicits no passion. You will never see lines around the country 500-1000 people deep, awake at 2am to place an order, awaiting their new.... whatever. If you believe that says something bad about their customers, you haven't thought this through rationally. It's no different than lumping pipe smokers into one preconceived notion when the truth is that it's very diverse. You simply can't have that sorta following, illicit this kind of passion for an expensive product, and not be doing everything right. You can absolutely disagree with their choices, but you can't argue one bit with their results. On the whole, people love what they do. There will ALWAYS be those who hate them for their success or mock their customers. It's true with any business, be it a Starbucks, Target, or whatever. From what I've seen/heard, MANY who hate Apple do so on principal. Generally speaking, it's not hard to gauge a hater from a fan without ever asking directly. There's a certain aesthetic about Apple products which tend to bleed over into other product choices. Anyways, I've said my peace The conversation becomes circular and predictable from all sides.

I am stoked for the new iPhone!

That's just not true. Android 7's can lead to fires, when the battery goes mental. But, all manufacturers have their problems. Apples were catching on fire too.
As for being a hater or a sycophant, here's the deal; I like Kaywoodie's, I like short Devil Anse style pipes and I like Meers.
Some of you misguided folks like Dunhills, Ashtons or Cobs. That's called personal choice in the market place AND especially as pipe smokers we, of all people, should understand personal style and choice.
I tried Apple products off all shapes sizes and configurations, I've tried Androids and Blackberry. I've liked them all. My CURRENT personal choice is an Android Galaxy Note 5. Why? Because I like it.
No scientific study or head scratcher paper will change my preferences. Besides it's Nate's phone choice, it's not like he's asking anyone to buy it for him.

I wish I could discover one tiny glimmer of enthusiasm for technological devices. I only like them when I cease to be aware of them. I want them to be like the old rotary phones, something you learned to use and seldom thought about again, a servant to the user, rather than an omnipresent cultural force and covert shaper of human life.
