I thank you folks for all the very kind words you have expressed. Chuck Stanion is a very good writer, and he did a great job.
I feel like you take great care with the tobacco reviews you write and you said as much in your interview - I’m glad Mr. Stanion appears you have done the same with his piece about you and your work. Thanks for allowing us a glimps behind the curtain.
Cheers

The "Point of View" drawing evokes Albrecht Durer for me (Gr. artist, 1471-1528), the intensity of line and detail. The photos at the drawing board and with the hat make me think of what I would expect Rumi, the Persian poet, to look like. I met Jim briefly at the TAPS pipe show in Raleigh, N.C. where he gave me a sample of EGR, and I have a tin on my shelf right now. We're both alums of the UNC-Greensboro MFA programs. That's an excellent article, well written.

You guess correctly when you mention Durer, who was a big influence on my work. Some of the Northern Renaissance artists were ground breaking.

While Jim does deserve all the praise he is receiving here, I must point out a couple weaknesses . After all, he might get a big head and slack off on his reviews.

Weakness number one: He can't hit a curve ball.

Weakness number two: He is unable to fry an egg properly.

On the positive side he appears to have a good hair stylist.

Actually, I could hit the curve ball. The knuckleball, too.

As for frying eggs, I always left that up to John Lawitzke. You know he has more experience.

Great piece...glad to see they did this write up on Jim.

And a perfect ending, quoting Jim in these final two sentences:

"If you have a nice pipe and a nice tobacco, and you are content, there's a great joy in that. Whether you're doing something, or doing nothing, there's just nothing like sitting back with a pipe and relaxing with the smoke."
