Nice grab! I haven't seen a David Jones in a long time. (retired now, I believe he makes guitars)
I'm going to start on restoring the David Jones pipe this afternoon.
Meanwhile, I've finished the cased Pete. I've cleaned the stummels on the other three smooth Petes, and dyed with Russet, then given a Danish Oil treatment. I've been using the Russet dye a lot lately - it doesn't seem to affect the color of brown pipes much, if any. Haven't touched the stems yet.

I often do a "wash" with heavily diluted russet, freshens up the overall briar bur doesn't darken.

I don't dilute it, but after about 30 minutes I rub with t-shirt cloth and alcohol, and that generally takes off the 'right' amount. Any time I add anything to dye I end up with brown fingers. It makes for good humorous comments to my girlfriend, but I'm generally the only one laughing.

I get that. I have plenty of rubber gloves right in the cabinet by my end. Do I put one on? Nope. Not so interesting when you are the the restaurant industry (no girl friends at the moment). I definitely spend more time getting stain off my fingers vs putting gloves on in the first place.

But I like your method better - it makes sure you don't get the pipe darker than planned.

Oh. My. Goodness. I feel so blessed. I know it is a GBD, but that Millenial showed up today. I think people didn't believe it was unsmoked because of the rim, but it just a little more stain, maybe?

The other pics from the listing were spot on, but they didn't grasp the scale. I will admit my biggest weakness in pipe shopping is attention to dimensions. First year smoker I snagged a Dunhill for a great price and was shocked to open a itty bitty size one pipe. Lol. This one is the opposite! I think people maybe missed where it retailed in the 70's for $1000.

It dwarfs my regular sized cob. As I stroll through websites with, frankly, ridiculous prices on pipes both new and estate, this was a score. And I say this as a person who has NOT gotten deals on a goodly number of my pipes.

I an ecstatic with this pipe.

Thats a once in a lifetime GBD! Ralph from New Jersey, used to write a column in The PIpe Collector. He worked at a shop in NJ that sold GBD's and occasionally saw pieces like that.

What a find! And unsmoked, to boot. I looked at it and could smell 1Q ghost through the phone, because that would be the most likely outcome for me.

Cased set of One Dot Sasieni Straight Grain pipes did quite well, $1580 (Treasurepipes)

I looked at that set recently, but had earmarked funds for other stuff with Black Friday sales approaching. I dismissed bidding on it partially because of this, but I was also thinking this would sell much higher since I’ve seen single uncased one dots selling for 1k. In a way, I would’ve expected a more jaw dropping price.
