@runscott did you buy it? If so, I call shotgun on your 777. You have surpassed your allocated Pete haul this month.
Apologies in advance, but I saw this last night and couldn't resist.

You can't have the 777, but you can have a breakfast bun.

Barling Motor domed pipes are always of interest, and I have been following this one. Up until this morning there had been only one bid on it and as expected the bidders came out on the last day. The pipe did very well, considering condition, and I was not surprised to find that the winner was a type of collector I have defined and described in the past as a "generalist", someone who buys all manner of antique items with no concern about price.

The most interesting part of this auction is the year date for the pipe, 1933, which is the first time I've seen one of these from a period later than the 1920's.

A pretty rough One Dot did better than I would have guessed.

I get that these are rare, but this is one ugly pipe.

Interesting that the Cavalier lacks both patent and date numbers.

I don't know all the idiosyncrasies of Dunhill stamps, but seems like I've seen bamboo stems that were missing some of the stamps, so maybe these run into that also.

Todd sold a 1950 patent Cavalier that has similar construction (definitely different from '60s versions) for double that amount, so I guess that's what a stamped patent and date number are worth.

Agreed. I’ve always assumed it’s a function of limited real estate to place stampings.

Oh, I don't know though, looks very neat and tidy, appealingly functional. Does the knurled section at the bottom indicate that it unscrews to drain? Shame the seller didn't show that, if so.
