Not so happy anymore, I'm devastated.
This is how my pipe arrived :

The complete lack of damage EXCEPT the twisted clean break means it was almost certainly caused by human hands. The pipe picked up and "folded" to make a statement, somewhere in the shipping / inspection process.

I agree with @georged
Looks like a deliberate, wanton act of destruction

George,
Can you please tell me something to make me feel better lol.
I can see your point.
Following your theory;
An inspection is not in order ( Germany- the Netherlands ).
So a sad and frustated kid , employed in a DHL distribution centre, sniffs out my parcel without having knowledge about its content.
Tears it open, removes the loose fill material, takes out the bubble wrapped object et volia there is a pipe.
One of his kin died in agony beacause of a smoking related disease, or tripped over a pipe and broke his/her neck; sad memories.
He goes livid and breaks my pipe , it takes strenght and looks very suspicious.
The shank is short and briar is tough; is it not more obvious it will collapse where the shank meets the stem (tenon snapped ) ?
Finale; unpacking action in reverse ; shipping proceeded.
Hmm ?

Can we post current eBay listing that are buy it now? There is one that I find interesting for discussion about its grain. “This is believed to be the most perfect specimen of straight grained briar ever made” on a plaque attached with the pipe.

It actually ended. So good to know for next time. But I’m interested in your guys thoughts on this grain and the plaque’s claim.

Some time between the listing photo being taken and you opening the box, I think the pipe was snapped in half by someone using two hands and a twisting motion.

Such behavior would be consistent with today's screech-minded anti-ANYTHING crowd, whether it be paintings in museums, baby seals, the weather, or tobacco.

The details of how it came to pass I have no idea.

A Kaywoodie 01 shape relief grain (black clover in white circle) Made in England. Likely early 50s. I generally only buy pipes made in the British Isles so haven't had a Kaywoodie until I saw this one.

I don't see GBD cases often, I can't remember the last time I saw a set like this. Sometimes New Standard briar is just gorgeous. This one appears to date to 1940.

This is a great example of something that piques my admiration but not cupidity. It’s refreshing to experience appreciation without desire.

A Dunhill Shape 56, in rough but salvageable condition went for a moderate price. 1971, I believe.

I was thinking about that one. The rounded over rim went pretty far down and the exterior burning concerned me. Who knows what the chamber might be like? Best of luck to the auction winner.

I think this 1910 Patent is a 'tweener' house pipe - smaller than the O2 but bigger than the 02:
