The inversion. Was the P stamp put on the wrong side, or did some re-bend the bit 180º? It's a bad fit which is what makes me think it was re-bent. Odd anyway.

Speaking of Dunhill’s...

First an “excusatione” as this is a live auction and I sincerely hope I am not blowing the lid off anyone’s hopes of an “under the radar score”.

I’ve looked on this pipe with some fascination for over a week.
What do you think happened here?

Smoked hot, wet, constantly, and without trimming the cake often. Excessive heat weakens the briar, thick cake expands, cracking it. Then the owner brutalized the corpse until the cracks had spread apart the bowl.

I know this is hard to believe, but some people are just shitheads.

OR....

It was the man's best friend. That pipe got him through the wars, the depression, the New Deal and the hope of better days.
That pipe saw him become a husband , a Father, a Grandfather. The only thing he could rely on for pleasure was that one pipe...
:)

I know I am full of shit, but I do like the idea...

This one was fun to watch. It almost makes me want a straight billiard. Ashton Straight Grains are not common and this one is a Grade 4 out of 6 with a silver cap and spigot. 42 bids placed. 40 grams also makes it appealing, light so much silver!
