Al, I agree with you on all points you make

.
I've had it next to other 9BC's, 307's and two pipes I have that have a '9' stamp. The bowl is the same on all except for the oddity shown below. The '69' look comes from the extended shank (longer than any of my other 9-shapes and definitely not as thick as some) and the long stem. I feel like the pipe should have been stamped '9B' instead, because of the long stem - the inlaid 'P' and bone tenon make me think the stem is original but possibly special order. Maybe someone wanted a 9B and Peterson pulled a stummel that was stamped 9BC?
As far as pricing, I'd love to discuss, but I'd be heading toward violating the intent behind this thread. I'll just say that quite a few of the pipes I post on ebay (450 remaining) will be ones that, like this one, are on the borderline of 'final collection' status (aiming for 50). As mentioned in the description, I'll probably pull it and restore.
Regarding variation in Peterson shapes - the top, smaller pipe with a much more acute stem bend, is stamped '9', is also stamped 'Straight Grain' and also has a bone tenon. Go figure.
