I'm thinking there was once a lonely Barling, who shared the same pipe rack with a lonely Sasieni, after a night of bliss little Barlieni was born............... what a cutie!...
LOL, now that gave me a good laugh! :D

The set of four one dots is probably legit. The Ashford with the odd stem - ehh - not really buying the experiment theory, more like the serendipitous matching of a later stem and a stemless bowl. I know, I'm stubborn. I'm also not shelling out those kinds of crazy dollars.
As for the Sasieni/Barling frankkenpipe, I think it's a kindness. Now that wonderful bowl has a top quality stem, rather than the mediocre Sasieni vulcanite of the period.

This actually is a rare example, a double Side Dot, after Sasieni lost the lawsuit over the One Dot brought by Dunhill, so 1922-23
Is there a ready link to said lawsuit? Or a quick summary? One reason I ask is I have a military mount bent blast, with a metal dot in the stem, (on top, a la Dunhill) I can't imagine it pre-dates the 1920's.... But very cool it it did.

georged, the fact that yours was UNSMOKED would make it a freak in my book!..... what a treasure.

It seems the "transition" periods always produce their fair share of these "rulebreakers", regardless of the marque........ and thats what makes them so damn interesting to me............ :D

I wish you had a photo of that ODA 834, now its driving ME crazy...........
I wish I had some pics, too. They went away courtesy of a sizzle noise + actual smoke coming from the new-ish iMac that committed suicide not long after the pipe was sold.
Lots of other innocent items died in the micro-fire, too.
The reason I sold the pipe is it had been a gift from my then-wife (who conspired with Barry Levin the estate guy) to surprise me with it, AND it was literally the last pipe sold/transaction Barry ever made. The deal was done at 8:00 pm and he died from a massive, sudden coronary at breakfast the next morning. Those two events---our marriage also died some years later---made the associations & memories too strong. Every look at the pipe would start a cascade of darkness in my head.
I suppose I wouldn't mind having it back now, but that's easy to say ten years later.
The guy who bought it was delighted, though, so there's that. :D
Speaking of delight, watch this video. Nothing to do with pipes, it's just something I recently came across that's remarkable in its purity and beauty:
