Thank you madmurdoc, that one is interesting because the name appears to be hand carved into the side. It is hard to read since it is so faint

Captainsousie, I mss spelled that one,it actually reads: HILAN and then it has a metal strap over the rest. It has a stamp on it of something that looks like a S|/ with a dot over it and a box next to that with some symbols. Going to look on the website that was provided to me

Might be a Hialeah. but not sure.
You think it might be a Heibe?

It reads HILAN.... Don't see why they would cover the name. Maybe it was a different mouth piece put on this one?
Also, what is "Briar"

Ahh I see, so these things have been sitting around for a very long time. Very dusty, they all smell a bit different... Which one should I clean and use for a first timer? I notice some have two holes at the mouth and some one....

The band would probably be a repair band as I've seen SJV bands on quite a few pipes with cracked shanks. The pipe itself is probably a Hiland's.

My favorite looking one is the Ancient mariner. I think this may be the one I use for the first bowl, it seems pretty clean. Anything suggested for cleaning it before attempting to pack?

The Butz-Choquin should read "St. Claude France" (That is where it was made). Like Captainsousie mentioned, the metal on the Hilands is a repair band. Probably had a small crack in the shank.

IMO the Savinelli, the Kikko and the Mariner are the nicest of the bunch.

Thank you for your great feedback, that was a mistake on my part lonestar. The Butz does say St. Claude. Auto correct may of sen I made that mistake lol. I took a few better pics and will post the three i have with me and that have the least amount of build up. I dont have cash to purchase tools so I was hoping i could do a quick clean-up somehow. The pics follow...
