I tend to find, having been a lifelong cigarette smoker, that old habits die hard.

While for the most part pipe smoking is a flavour experience limited to the mouth, what I find especially with Virginias or VaPers is that as I luxuriate in the taste, I want more, and take down the smoke at least as far as my bronchia. It enhances the experience, for me.

Not every puff goes that way, far from it, but only the occasional one as required, for fullness. I have done this with cigars as well but much less frequently.

Anyone else enjoy this? Or is it limited to we who were cigarette smokers?

I wouldn’t say it’s limited to fag smokers, no. My old man only ever smoked a pipe & he used to deliberately inhale, quite regularly as I remember.

I don’t intentionally take it back to the lungs, but inevitably it happens as I clench most of the time. Taste wise, you’re better off not inhaling (imo) buzz wise, it’ll get there through puffing & snorkelling smoke via ones schnozz, eventually. Especially if like me, the pipe is on the go all the time.

I smoked cig’s & rollies for a long time. I don’t feel the need to inhale pipe smoke & you should try & ease off, if you can.

While I was transitioning to pipes from cigs, I would let a little smoke slip from time to time, but it is not a good practice for several reasons. Now, if I inhaled, I would cough my head off. And, i don't need to, because the heavy nicotine laden smoke will ingest just fine through the blood vessels in my mouth. I actually prefer the slow uptake of nicotine and drawn out process of a much longer cycle of absorption.

Since i started smoking later in life, with cigars, and never having been a cigarette smoker i can say i do not inhale pipe smoke. I have, on a couple occasions, inhaled maybe a 1/4 puff just out of sheer curiosity, but it is certainly not my thing! :P

Even when using medicinal cannabis during cancer treatment 6 years ago my preference was for culinary uptake, rather than inhaled smoke (though i did this if i needed relief faster from time to time as well).

I clench and the blends I smoke tend to be quite mild. Read: easily breathed in and breathed out. I hate the idea that smoke gets beyond the mouth. But I think we delude ourselves to think otherwise.

I gently retro most every puff. I never intentionally take smoke in but as I said, it’s happening.

On edit: As a side note no pun intended. Was taking to a young guy vaping about the dangers. He said, “No way, this is low in nicotine”

It’s surprising how many people feel that nicotine is the evil ingredient and that nicotine is carcinogenic, rather than the tars and byproduct of combustion.

I said, it’s the artificial chemical flavorings you are taking into your lungs that is the unknown factor.

He looked at me like I had two heads.

When I was first moving from fags to the pipe I used to accidentally inhale a bit. After quitting, I don't inhale at all anymore. And even though I still go through the occasional two or three week period of smoking cigarettes, I can still pick up a pipe and not inhale it.

In darker days I even smoked pipe tobacco in rollies. If anyone has ever ripped open their own dogends to reuse the horrible tarry leftovers in a new cigarette, imagine doing that but with pipe tobacco, rolled in two papers so it still burns okay. Royal Yacht brings back particularly foul memories.

Same. Fifty years of smoking pipe/roll-ups including 12 years ofvaping. Inhaling is a reflex. I have found though that with my recent return to pipe smoking I don’t inhale half as much but once every so often a quick inhale as far as the throat definitely increases the enjoyment for me.
